How To Make Free Ringtones For The iPhone Using iTunes

Here's the deal, I haven't written a blog in a long time, (8 months to be exact.) So I figured I'd do one before the year is up. Nothing big, just a little something to hell some people out. Go easy on me, I'm a little rusty. So here it goes. I realized more and more of my friends are getting iPhones. Can't blame them, it's awesome phone. One of the things they always ask about is creating ringtones. Sure you can pay the $.99 (That's on top of the money you already paid for the song) to iTunes to make the ringtone for you. Or you can follow this step by step tutorial and get them for free. If you're reading this, that means you decided to go the free route, good for you. besides, in this economy, use you can use that extra dollar. So lets get to it.

• Step 1: Add the song you want to make a ringtone into iTunes.
• Step 2: Right click the song and select “Get info” Once the window comes up, click the “Options” tab.
• Step 3: Here you can select the start time and end time for your desired ringtone and click ok.
*Note: Ringotnes can only be between 30 & 40 seconds long*
• Step 4: Right-click on the song again and select “Create AAC Version” This should take a couple of second and you should hear a chime when it's done.
• Step 5: Create a new folder, preferably in you My Documents or Desktop and call it something like “Ringtones”
• Step 6: Drag and drop the newly created song and place it in the newly created “Ringtones” folder.

*Note: Step 7 & 8 you only have to do the first time*
• Step 7: At the top of the “Ringtones” folder, click Tools, select Folder Options and click the “View” tab.
• Step 8: Uncheck the box titled "Hide extensions for known file types" then click ok. Now you should be able to see that the file name has .m4a at the end of it.

• Step 9: Right-click the song and select “Rename”, all you have to do is change the "m4a" extension to say "m4r" then click yes when it asks if you really want to change the name.
• Step 10: Drag and drop the ringtone to your iTunes. Once there, you can drag and drop them to your iPhone, and you're done.

*Few more notes: Make sure to go back and reset the start and stop time of the original song, or else next time you play it, it'll only play the 30 to 40 second clip you set it to.*
*Also if you want, you can go and delete the 30 to 40 second audio clip you created, since you already have the ringtone and no longer need it.*

There you go, hopefully this will help you out and save you some money in the process.

Artist of the Week: The Academy Is

Here's the deal, I know I didn't have a new artist last week. I was having computer issues, and by the time I fixed them, half the week was already gone. But enough about that, as most people know, I love acoustic songs. Whether it be unplugged, or just an acoustic version of an already popular song. So when one of my favorite bands decides to do an all acoustic tour, I'd be an idiot not to go, no offense Nito. Lucky for me, I'll be able to see this band this upcoming Saturday, but before we get to that, lets get to know them a little better. The band originated from a suburb of Chicago, IL known as Hoffman Estates.
In 2003, William Beckett(Vocals) and Michael Carden(Guitar) decided to start a band, so they added Adam T. Siska(Bass), Adrian LaTrace Jr(Guitar) and Mike DelPrincipe(Drums) to the group. The band then went into the studio and recorded their debut EP The Academy. After hearing a couple of the songs, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy immediately signed them to his label Fueled by Ramen. In 2004 the band started recording their first album under their new label. After they finished the album and went on a tour, the band went through a line up change with Tom Conrad, replacing LaTrace and Andy Mrotek replaced DelPrincipe. Then on February 8 2005, the band released Almost Here. The album would spawn three great singles in "Checkmarks", "The Phrase That Pays" and "Slow Down". In October 0f 2006, the band had announced that they had parted ways with Tom Conrad, and would be replaced by Michael Guy Chislett. Following this, the band started working on their next album and on April 3, 2007 the band released Santi. The album would spawn three more great singles in "We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands", "Neighbors" and "Everything We Had." Most recently, the band released their third studio album titled Fast Times at Barrington High.

The album was released in August of this year and would sell over 35,000 copies in the first week alone. Most of that success can be attributed to the album's first single "About a Girl" which is seen by the band as one of their favorite songs ever written. The second single of the album is "Summer Hair=Forever Young" which happens to be one of my favorite songs from the album. After listening to the album over and over again for the last couple of months, I can't wait for the concert. Artist of the Week: Ace Enders & A Million Different People

Here's the deal, I know it seems like I just had this band as my Artist of the Week, but it's actually been almost 2 months. Either way, I just had to have them on again cause they just put out a new album. It's practically the first rule in the book. The unwritten book of Artist of the Week that is. Not to be confused with the unwritten book of the road. But enough about that, lets get to know the band a little better.
See, although this band is relatively new, two of the guys behind it have been around a bit longer. It all started back in 2001 when Arthur "Ace" Enders (Vocals, Guitar) and Sergio Anello (Bass) formed a band called The Early November along with two other friends. The band had some moderate success releasing two albums and three EPs. Then in March of 2007, the band posted on their website that they "will be taking an indefinite hiatus". That same year, Enders took out a loan to build a music studio, and after only three weeks of construction, Pink Space Recording was born. After the studio's completion, Enders didn't waste any time spending two straight days making demos that would later be named "From a Daze" and "Emergency". He soon signed on with manager Lucas Keller to work on his new project. Then on June 13, 2008, Enders released an 8 track album which was, and still is, free to download on the Fuse.tv website titled The Secret Wars. Since it wasn't a full album release, it didn't really have any singles or videos. But one song on the album that I found myself really enjoying was Bring Back Love (2020). A couple of months ago, front man Ace Enders had an idea. He thought that in times like these, sometimes people need something to hold on to. Even if that something is as simple as a song. So with the help of some friends; Mark Hoppus (Blink-182), Matt Thiessen (Relient K), Kenny Vasoli (Starting Line), Craig Owens (Chiodos), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Aaron Marsh (Copeland), Duane F. Okun (Socratic), and Bryce Avery (the Rocket Summer), Enders set out to record a song that might just do that. Then in December of 2008, he released Bittersweet Symphony with all the proceeds going to VH1's Save The Music Foundation. After spending most of the summer touring, the band started working on a new album. Unlike their previous release, this was to be a full album. Then on March 17, the band released When I Hit The Ground.

"The Only Thing I Have (The Sign)" is the first single of the album, and I have to say, it's some of their best work yet. So much, that I think I'll be listening to this album for quite a while. Artist of the Week: Sum 41

Here's the deal, one of the first times I ever heard this band, was in a video game called Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX 2. It was one of my favorite songs in the game. To this day, when ever I hear the song, I think of the game. If you had told me then, that this band was gonna be as big as they are today, I prolly would've believed, cause they are pretty good. Either way, they're my artist for the week, so lets get to know them.
The band was formed in 1996 in Ajax, Ontario Canada. There they started out as a NoFX cover band named Kaspir, before they changed it to what it is now. They choose that name cause it was 41 days into the summer when they started the band. Deryck Whibley (Vocals, Guitar), Dave Baksh (Lead Guitar), Cone McCaslin (Bass) and Steve Jocz (Drums) did what most bands do, played some shows, sent out demo tapes, but it wasn't until 1999 that the band signed with Island Records. The following year, they released an EP titled Half Hour of Power. Although the album had little success, it was able to get the band some exposure thanks to it's single "Makes No Difference" which was also able to make it into a certain video game. By the time the EP was released, the band was already working on their debut album. Then in May of 2001, the band released All Killer No Filler. The album was a huge success selling a million copies in just a few months. Since then the album has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide thanks to it's three singles "Fat Lip", "In Too Deep" and "Motivation." They spent most of 2001 on the road playing almost 300 shows, some of which they opened for Blink-182. By the end of the year, the band started working on their follow up album. Less then a year later, in November of 2002, the band released Does This Look Infected. Although not as popular as their first, the album did enjoy some moderate success thanks to it's singles "Still Waiting", "The Hell Song" and "Over My Head (Better Off Dead)". Even though the album cover was shot months before the release, the album was almost delayed because the band didn't have a name for it. Deryck suggest Does This Look Infected. After the band had a good laugh, they stuck with the name. In May of 2004, the band traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo with charity organization War Child Canada. They were there to document the civil war in the country, and unfortunately fighting broke out near their hotel room. They couldn't do anything but lie on the floor and pray. The band waited for the firing to die down, but with no end in sight, a U.N. peacekeeper, Charles "Chuck" Pelletier, called for armored carriers to take the hotel's occupants out of the hot zone. After almost six hours, the carriers arrived, and the band and the forty other civilians were taken to safety. In honor of Pelletier, the band decided to name their next album after him. So in October of 2004, the band released their third album simply named Chuck. The album would spawn four singles in "We're All to Blame", "Pieces", "Some Say" and "No Reason". In May of 2006, Dave Baksh announced that he was leaving the band to work on his side project. Even though he was not replaced, the band does have and extra guitarist for when they're on tour. Later that year the band began work on their fourth album. Knowing that the album wouldn't be ready til the summer, the band released "March of the Dogs" via iTunes in April of 2007, even though it wasn't a single. Then in July of that year, they released Underclass Hero. The album would spawn three singles with "Underclass Hero", "Walking Disaster" and "With Me". After touring to promote the album, the band decided to take some time off, just to get some rest. In the meantime, the band released a greatest hits album in Japan. By popular demand, they decided to release it in the states as well. Which they did this Tuesday (3/17). The album is titled All That Good Shit

and includes songs from all five albums. Currently, the band had been working on an EP, but because of all the great music they were turning out, they decided to make it a full LP. I for one can't wait to hear it. That being said, this week's artist is Sum 41 with their video Fat Lip, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: New Found Glory

Here's the deal, another week, another artist right? Wrong. This week's artist is not just one of my favorite bands, but is releasing their sixth studio album this Tuesday (3/10). The band was even lucky enough to have the album produced by Blink-182's Mark Hoppus. But before we get into that, lets get to know them a little better. It all started in mid-1997 in Coral Springs, Florida where two friends Jordan Pundik (vocals) and Steve Klein (guitar) began writing music together. Shortly after they recruited Ian Grushka (bass), Chad Gilbert (lead guitar) and Joe Moreno (Drums). That same year the band released it's first EP with It’s All About the Girls. Shortly after the release, Moreno was replaced by Cyrus Bolooki. In 1998, the band was able to sign with Eulogy Records, and the following year released their Debut album Nothing Gold Can Stay which featured the hit single "Hit or Miss". The album was able to get the band out on tour which earned them a good fan following. By 2000, the band had signed with Drive-Thru Records and had started working on a new album. It wouldn't be long before the band would release the self-titled album New Found Glory. The album was a huge success spawning two hit singles with "Dressed to Kill" and the re-release of "Hit or Miss". To date, the album has sold over a million copies. That same year the band released an EP covering songs from different movies. The album was titled From the Screen to Your Stereo. In 2002, the band was able to score a nice spot on the Vans Warped Tour. This was just around the same time Sticks and Stones was released. Thanks to singles "Head on Collision", "My Friends Over You" and "Understatement" the album when on to sell over 850,000 copies in the US alone. In 2004, after being a part of the Honda Civic Tour with Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, the band released their 4th studio album with Catalyst. The album would sell over a million copies in just 3 months thanks to it's singles "All Downhill From Here", "Truth of my Youth", "Failure's Not Flattering" and "I Don't Wanna Know". After the release of the album and touring to support it, the band took a short break. But they would start work on their next album in late 2005. Then in September of 2006, the band released Coming Home. Although the album only spawned one single with "It's Not Your Fault", it's still considered some of the band's best work. The very next year, the band released From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II, but unlike this first part, this was a full album that also spawned a single in "Kiss Me". In March of 2008, the band released a compilation CD titled Hits. The album consisted of some of the bands greatest hits and included two unreleased tracks. The following month, the band released an EP titled Tip of the Iceberg which contains both new material and covers of classic hardcore punk songs. The CD also includes an extra disc from The International Superheroes of Hardcore, named Takin' It Ova! This is actually a side project of all members of the band only it features Chad singing and Jordan on guitar. They even have super hero names for all the of the members. Since then, the band has been working on a new album titled Now Without a Fight

that is set to release this Tuesday (3/10). The album with it's first single "Listen to Your Friends" can be heard in it's entirety on the band's Myspace Page. Artist of the Week: Jimmy Eat World

Here's the deal, recently, this week's band reached a little milestone. Their album Clarity reached it's ten year anniversary. The album is very special to the band cause it was their first album to appear on the billboard charts. The band decided to celebrate the occasion by going on a small tour, which came through Chicago. Sadly, I wasn't able to go to the show, but that doesn't mean I can't have them on this week. But first, lets get to know them a little better. The band was formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993 when long time friends Jim Adkins (Singer/Guitarist) and Zach Lind (Drummer) joined up with Tom Linton (Guitarist) and Mitch Porter (Bass Guitar). The band got it's name from Linton's younger brothers, Jim and Ed, who would always have arguments with Jim usually winning. Ed retaliated by drawing a picture of Jim eating the world. The band began like most bands, recording EP's and singles followed by touring. In 1995 the band got the attention of Capitol Records who would eventually sign them. Right before they went into the studio, Mitch Porter decided to leave the band and was replaced by Linton's friend Rick Burch. Once they got into the studio, the band recorded its major-label debut album, Static Prevails. The band would continue to tour, then in 1998, the band went back to the studio to record it's next album titled Clarity. After the released, the band found themselves performing in front of bigger and bigger crowds, mostly likely due to the success of their single "Lucky Denver Mint." Even with this success, the band was dropped from their label in late 1999, but the band would not let that slow them down. They still went through with a European tour. They even bought copies of their own album, out of their own pocket, to send to Europe. When they returned, the band got day jobs and saved every cent they could to buy studio time for their next album. In 2001, they finished the album, which was titled Bleed American. Soon, the band started scouting for a new label and the result was a short bidding war, which included former label Capitol Records. The band would eventually sign with DreamWorks. The album was released in July of 2001, but after the 9/11 attacks, the band would re-release the album as a self-titled album to avoid any misinterpretation. The album would produce several singles with the second one "The Middle", being their most successful to date with it reaching #5 on Billboards hot 100. Others singles include "Sweetness", "A Praise Chorus" and of course "Bleed American". After an extensive tour in support of Bleed American, in 2004, the band went back to the studio to record their follow-up album. In October of that year, the band released the album Futures, under Interscope Records who had acquired Dreamworks. They album would spawn two great singles in "Pain" and then later on "Work". After touring with great bands such as Taking Back Sunday and Green Day, the band went back into the studio once more to work on their next album. This album would be a little different with it being self-produced by the band. Then, in October of 2007, the band released Chase the Light. The album has produced two great singles in "Big Casino" and "Always Be". The band has recently said that after their current tour ends, they will head back home and start working on a new album. Who knows what great work they might produce next. That being said, this week's artist is Jimmy Eat World, with their video Sweetness, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Carolina Liar

Here's the deal, I know I'm running a little late, but dealing with other people's tax problems and going to parties that never happened, tend to mess things up a bit. Any who, originally I wanted to have this artist on a couple of weeks ago, but a certain awesome thing happened and mixed things up a bit. None the less, they are here now so lets get to know them. This band originated from Charleston, South Carolina where singer song writer Chad Wolf grew up. At the age of 22, he would move to Los Angeles where he would make ends meet by doing all sorts of odd jobs. Eventually, Chad would score and internship with song writer Diane Warren who would help him refine and sharpen his writing skills. While still writing songs, Chad continued doing what he could to keep a roof over his which included house sitting for a friend. Who would've guess that friend just happened to know famed Swedish record producer Max Martin. After playing a couple of songs for Max, Chad soon found himself in Sweden recording an album with some of Europe's best producers. Of course he needed a band, so he got an all-Swedish band of Jim Almgren Gandara (Guitar), Johan Carlsson (Keyboards), Rickard Goransson on (Guitar), Max Grahn (Drums), and Erik Haager (Bass). The band would go on to sign with Atlantic Records and then in May of this year, release their debut album Coming to Terms. The album has done pretty good thanks to it's two singles "I'm Not Over" and "Show Me What I'm Looking For." Recently, the band had both of these songs featured in an episode of 90210. The videos of which can be seen here and here. Not one of my favorite shows, but it's still nice to see them get some exposure. That being said, this week's artist is Carolina Liar with their new video Show Me What I'm Looking For, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Here's the deal, you pretty much now how it goes. If a band I like releases a new album, they pretty much become my artist of the week. So of course with the release of the their new album two weeks ago, I don't have much choice. But first, here's a brief history lesson. The band unofficially got started back in 2001 in Middleburg, Florida by Ronnie Winter (Vocals) and Duke Kitchens (Guitar). Back then, the guys spent most of their time just covering bands like Blink 182. It wasn't until 2003 that the band truly took form with the addition of Joey Westwood (Bass) and Jon Wilkes (Drums). Their name was actually chosen at random. They put a bunch of words on a wall and had one of the guys pick some out while blind folded. For 18 months they wrote and rehearsed with no real intention of playing shows or recording an album. When a couple of friends heard them play, they suggested they play out, so they started booking gigs and were immediately embraced by the local scene. By mid 2004, the band had recorded a demo, an EP, and a couple of extra songs which they eventually turned into their self-titled debut album. In 2005, the band was able to sign with Virgin records. They soon started working in the studio creating new songs, and re-recording old ones. Then in 2006, the band released their major label debut album with Don't You Fake It. The album was a commercial success thanks to singles like "Face Down", "False Pretense", "Your Guardian Angel", and "Damn Regret". In early 2007, the band set out on a US headlining tour with My Chemical Romance and Rise Against. In June of that same year, the band started working on their next album. Even though it was a long time coming, on February 3, Lonely Road was finally released. I still haven't given the album a good listen, but will this week. I suggest you guys do the same. Artist of the Week: Blink-182 Reunited

Here's the deal, today was one of those days I though would never come. A day that for almost four years I've been waiting for, but never really saw happening. But then, these words were spoken.

"We use to play music together, and we decided that we're gonna play music together again."

These words were spoken by Travis Barker, and Blink-182 right before they presented an Award at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. If there was any doubt about what had just happened, that was quickly erased with Mark proudly saying

"Blink-182 is Back!"

I quickly heard a loud screech, and I thought, what was that. It was actually my little sister letting out the same excitement I was feeling. It has been almost four years since the band said they were taking an indefinite hiatus. The guys went their separate ways with Mark and Travis forming +44 and releasing an album in When Your Heart Stops Beating. Tom on the other side formed Angels And Airwaves and released two albums; We Don't Need to Whisper and I-Empire. This whole time both sides were not on speaking terms. When asked if they would ever reunite, both sides felt it was very unlikely. Then, this past September, Travis was critically injured in an accident. Travis was heading to California after a performance with DJ AM in South Carolina, when the Learjet they were in overran the runway, blew through a fence and crashed near a road on an embankment, where the plane quickly caught on fire. Both Travis and DJ AM suffered second and third degree burns and would be the only two survivors. Both pilots were killed in the crash, along with Travis' bodyguard Charles Still, and personal assistant Chris Baker. In November, after Travis was released from the hospital, Mark had this to say on his website.

"In the midst of everything else that has happened lately, Tom, Travis, and I have all spoken together. First through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. They've all been great, very positive conversations. We're just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking. It's a good thing. Obviously the first question for a lot of people will be “does this mean a blink-182 reunion?" The answer is none of us know. We haven't talked about it at all. Right now it's just good for the three of us to see one another, reconnect, and let the past be the past. The events of the past two months supersede everything that happened before. Life is too short."

Since then, there wasn't any talk about a reunion or any music all together. That was until this past week when it was announced that Mark, Tom and Travis would be presenting an award together at the upcoming Grammys. That's where they decided to announce to the world that Blink-182 is back together. The guys are picking up right where they left off. They've already started working on a new album and plan to start touring as soon as this summer. I don't know about you, but I just can't wait to see what these guys are working on. That being said, this week's artist is Blink-182 with their song I Miss you, enjoy.

1. I hate chain letters so I don't know why I'm doing this.

2. I assume to much and it tends to get me into trouble a lot.

4. I collect to many comics, most of which are Marvel. It's at a point where they're all over my living room.

5. A continuation of #4, I own over 300 comics that I have never read.

6. Even though I usually have the latest in tech, I never had a cell phone til this past December. But at least it's an iPhone.

7. One of my guilty pleasures is the Disney channel show Wizards of Waverly Place.

8. I trust people to easily, and it's gotten me into trouble.

9. I've gone to six flags over 40 times, but non in the last three years.

10. I've been to over 400 Cubs games and over 60 Bears games, but never as a fan.
(Meaning I've never bought a ticket and or had a seat)

11. I'm able to start a conversation with anyone, even if it's the first time we've met. A trait I sadly developed AFTER high school.

12. Some of my friends say I talk to much about Attack of the Show and The Totally Rad Show. I for one think you can never talk to much about said shows.

13. I have never drank any alcoholic beverage or smoked any kind of cigarette in my entire life. With the exception of wine at church.

14. I go to church pretty much once a year. That once being December 12th at 4am were we sing Las Mañanitas to la Virgen de Guadalupe.

15. I still have a box full of component cables that I took when CompUSA went under.

16. I have a pet beta fish name Beta Ray Bill which I got at a Quinceañera almost two years ago.

17. I waited in line over night and slept on the floor in the middle of November for 8 hours to get my Nintendo Wii on the day it was released.

18. I've owned ever Nintendo system ever made with the exception of the Virtual Boy, and they all still work.

19. I tend to be a pack rat and still have things like the boxes that my PS3, Nintendo Wii, Macbook and Canon camera came in.

20. I put ketchup on almost anything and everything, such as scrambled eggs, pizza and rice.

21. When it comes to cooking, I'm like the Mexican Macgyver. I can make a full meal with almost nothing but condiments.

22. When I was a little kid, I was given the nickname Tornillo, which means screw. It's good to know that it's stood the test of time.

23. Even though I'm really into rock and alternative music, I use to like rap and hip hop when I was younger. It still freaks people out when I start singing Regulate.

24. I have a lot of trouble controlling what I say sometimes. It's like I have word vomit when it comes to insults.

25. I once worked at Navy Pier selling cinnamon roasted nuts. People use to come up to me and say stuff like; "I smelled you nuts as soon as I walked in" or "We came all the way from Colorado to have some of your nuts."

Well this week, I wanted to share a little bit more about this band, and a very cool project they've put together. A couple of months ago, front man Ace Enders had an idea. He thought that in time like these, sometimes people need something to hold on to. Even if that something is as simple as a song. So with the help of some friends; Mark Hoppus (Blink-182), Matt Thiessen (Relient K), Kenny Vasoli (Starting Line), Craig Owens (Chiodos), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Aaron Marsh (Copeland), Duane F. Okun (Socratic), and Bryce Avery (the Rocket Summer), Enders set out to record a song that might just do that.

Once the song was done, Enders made it available on December 2nd through iTunes, but that wasn't the end of the story. Enders decided to have all proceeds from the song benefiting VH1's Save The Music Foundation.

For those unfamiliar, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education programs in America’s public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education. To date, VH1 Save The Music has provided more than $43 million in new musical instruments, affecting the lives of more than 1.2 million children. Lets help push that number way over $50 million. Here's the deal, if you're like me, you go to half a dozen concerts a year, at least. With so many shows, you're bound to see smaller bands you've never heard of, but end up liking in the end. This week is about one such band. To be honest, the first time I was at a concert with this band, I paid no attention to them. See they were opening for Angels And Airwaves and that's who I was really there to see. It wasn't til my brother saw them, and download their album, that I became interested. See, although this band is relatively new, two of the guys behind it have been around a bit longer. It all started back in 2001 when Arthur "Ace" Enders (Vocals, Guitar) and Sergio Anello (Bass) formed a band called The Early November along with two other friends. The band had some moderate success releasing two albums and three EPs. Then in March of 2007, the band posted on their website that they "will be taking an indefinite hiatus". That same year, Enders took out a loan to build a music studio, and after only three weeks of construction, Pink Space Recording was born. After the studio's completion, Enders didn't waste any time spending two straight days making demos that would later be named "From a Daze" and "Emergency". He soon signed on with manager Lucas Keller to work on his new project. Then on June 13, 2008, Enders released an 8 track album which was, and still is, free to download on the Fuse.tv website titled The Secret Wars.

After spending most of the summer touring, the band started working on a new album that they plan to release this spring titled When I Hit the Ground. After hearing the great music they've already put out, I'll be counting the days til this album hits shelves. Here's the deal, I'm putting this out a day late cause I was to tired yesterday from the great weekend I had at the Cubs convention. If you want, you can see some pics from the weekend right here. But enough about that, this week's band has been my AOTW a few times. It's usually when they have something new going on like now, but before we get to that, here's a little history lesson. The band started out of the Chicago land area back in 1997. Like most bands they started by playing small shows. most of which that took place at the famed Metro. In 2000, the band released it's first album Come on Over which included one of my favorite songs, "Kitty Kat Shirt". Soon after, the band would go through a transformation. The new line up was: Tom Higgenson(Vocals), Dave Tirio(Guitar), Tim Lopez(Guitar), Mike Retondo(Bass) and De'Mar Hamilton(Drums). In 2002, the band would release their second album with Stop, The album included some great songs, with some of my favorites being "Fireworks", "A Lonely September" and "Radios in Heaven". In 2005, the band would release their third album and first studio album with All That We Needed. The album would become a success with the help of the singles "All That We Needed", "Take Me Away" and "Hey There Delilah". The latter was originally a hidden track on the album, but after seeing it's success, it prompted the band to release an EP which included the hit song. The following year, the band would release their fourth album with Every Second Counts. Although the album already had two great singles in "Hate(I Really Don't Like You)" and "Our Time Now". Seeing the success of the previous released EP, the band re-released Every Second Counts with "Hey There Delilah" as a bonus track. Doing so would launch the single to number one, and the album to number ten on the billboard hot 100. This past summer, the band had been working on a new album, the process of which they documented in a series called Meet Me in California on ABCFamily.com. The new album is called Big Bad World and hit stores on September 23. The first single and video of the album was "Natural Disaster". A couple weeks ago Tom and his friend Mike threw around an idea of making a fun, YouTube style video for 1,2,3,4. They eventually came up with the idea of heading into Chicago armed only with a camera and a guitar, and play the song at random locations around the city. The focus however, would be on the people who stopped to watch, but would anyone even stop? Would this even work? You have to watch to find out. Here's the deal, so last week I talked about how I saw a couple of cool concert performances on New Year's Eve. Well one of them was Maná which was my artist of the week last week. The other, just so happens to be this week's artist. So how bout I help you get to know this artist a little better. Just like last week, this week's artist has been around longer then most people know. To be honest, one of the first times I ever heard her music was in a Pepsi commercial. Growing up in Columbia, since an early age it was easy to see that she was very smart. She wrote her first poem, "La Rosa De Cristal" at the age of 4. She is a native Spanish speaker but also speaks fluent English, Portuguese, Italian, and some Arabic. Her name actually means "Thankful" in Arabic. At the age of 8 she took up belly dancing and became very passionate about it. She would even perform at school ever Friday for her fellow classmates, which earned her the nickname "The Belly Dance Girl". Around the age of 13, she met local theater producer Monica Ariza, who wanted to help her build music career. Ariza even got her an audition with a Sony Colombia exec Ciro Vargas in a hotel lobby. Vargas was very impressed and when he returned to the Sony office, he gave the cassette to a song and artist director. Sadly, the director was not as impressed and even thought she was something of "a lost cause". But Vargas, was still convinced that She had talent and set up and audition with some other Sony execs. She performed a couple of songs and impressed them so much that they signed her to a three album deal. Her debut album, Magia, was recorded and released in 1991 when she was only 14 years old. Though the album got some radio time in Colombia and got her some exposure, the album did not fare well commercially, selling around a thousand copies. The album was followed up with her second album, Peligro in 1993. But after having the album rushed out, she was not happy with the final result and refuse to promote it. That same year, she was invite to perform at Chile's Viña del Mar International Song Festival. The event gives young Latin artist a chance to perform their music and have a panel of judges pick a winner. She would eventually get third place thanks to one of the judges who was then a 20 year old Ricky Martin. Shortly after, she decided to take a hiatus to finish high school. In 1995, with many musical influences such as Alanis Morissette, she went back into the studio to record and release her third album Pies Descalzos. The album would sell over 5 million copies and spawn a remix album simply named The Remixes. In 1998, she released her fourth album ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones?

which sold over 300,000 copies on it's first day. The album also gained her popularity in many new regions selling over a millions copies in the US and eight million worldwide. Because of this, eight out the album's 11 tracks became singles including "Inevitable", and "Ojos Así". Thanks to the success of the album, she was asked to do a MTV Unplugged album, which would also sell very well. In 2001, she started recording an English album collaborating with Gloria Estefan. At first she started writing English versions of some of her earlier songs, but later on decided against it and in November of that yeah Laundry Service was released. The album would do very well in the US selling over three million copies and 13 million worldwide thanks to singles like "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Cloths". The following year she released a Spanish greatest hits album titled Grandes Exitos. After spending over two years out of the spotlight, in 2005 she announced the Oral Fixation project. The first album off the project Fijación Oral Vol. 1, was released in June of 2005. The first single from the album, "La Tortura", which featured Alejandro Sanz, spent a record of twenty-five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. The album sold 157,000 copies in its first week. The album also went Platinum in Venezuela, triple Platinum in Colombia, and sold out in Mexico on it's first day of release. Later that year, she released Oral Fixation Vol. 2 which two hit singles, "Don't Bother" and "Hips Don't Lie", helped it sell over ten million copies worldwide. In June of 2006, She embarked on the worldwide Oral Fixation Tour, which last over a year, and had 125 shows in 5 different continents. Since the end of the tour, she has been slowly working on a new album, but she hasn't said anything about when the album will be finished. Here's the deal, this past week the world rang in the new year, and for once, I wasn't working. Well that night at least. So I got to ring in the new year with my family. After the clock struck midnight, and my sister stopped yelling "Woooooo 1999!", we got to hang out and watch a couple of concert performances on TV. One of the performance I enjoyed so much, that I just had to have them on this week. So, lets get to know the band a little better. Most people might not know, but this band has been around for quite a while. The band first got together in Guadalajara in the late 70's with José Fernando "Fher" Olvera (Vocals), Gustavo Orozco (Guitar), Juan Diego Calleros (Bass), Ulises Calleros (Guitar) and Abraham Calleros (Drums). Back then they were called Green Hat, and mostly just covered Beatles and Led Zeppelin songs. Eventually they decided to go into spanish music and changed their name to Sombrero Verde. Although they released two albums, they never really gained any success. In 1986, the band changed their name to Maná and released a self titled album. Seeing that their current label was not gonna give them the push they wanted, the band decided to sign with Warner Music, and in 1990, they released their first album with them in Falta Amor. The album was slow at first, but gained popularity the following year when "Rayando el Sol" became the band's first hit single. The band then when on tour in Mexico and South America performing over 250 times. That year the band added Iván González on keyboards while César "Vampiro" López took over on guitar in place Ulises Calleros. In 1992 the band released their third album with Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?

The album was the bands first big hit and spawned many hit singles that included but are not limited to: "De Pies a Cabeza", "Vivir sin Aire", & "Me Vale". The album would go on to sell over 6 million copies, and took the band on a worldwide tour which included 268 shows in 17 different countries. In 1994, Iván González and César López left the group, but the band still released two albums that year, Maná en Vivo & Cuando los Ángeles Lloran. Sergio Vallín would replace César on guitar later on. In 1997, the band released Sueños Líquidos which was recorded in Puerto Vallarta, and was released in 36 countries simultaneously. In 1999, Maná accepted MTV's proposition and produced a record and DVD with acoustic versions of their best songs, The result was Maná MTV Unplugged, which turned out to be one of the highest selling of the series. In 2002, the band released Revolución de Amor in which they blended their sound with the essence of rock and roll from the sixties and seventies. In 2006, after a four-year hiatus, the band released Amar es Combatir which would sell over 60,000 copies in the first week alone. This past year, the band released their 8th studio album in Arde El Cielo. It's good to see that after almost 3 decades, the band is still going strong. Here's the deal, every once in a while something comes along that makes you say, Thank You. It could be something a person says or does that we've all been dying to do. Most of the time we do say it, but we don't have a large enough audience to hear us or even care. Well someone just came along and not just said something, but made a video, and then showed it on his TV show. Some of you might know him as Kevin Pereira, others as K-Per, but today, he is Kevye West. After Kanye West's auto tuner malfunctioned on SNL a couple of weeks ago, the world witnessed how bad a singer he really is. That's when Kevin decided to show that anybody could do what Kanye does. So with the help of some friends, a Mac and a pitch-correction program, Kevye was born.

What was to come was a performance worthy of an Academy Award. OK maybe I'm exaggerating, but it was at least Grammy worthy. The video only took about six hours to make and one hour to edit, and it still looked as good if not better then anything Kanye has ever put out. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself. Here's the deal, you all know I like new music, and when a band I like releases a new album, there's not much to do but have them as my artist of the week. Even more so this week cause, this week's artist hits a little close to home. So let's get to know set band a little better. The band was formed in 2001 in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. It all started when friends Joe Trohman (Guitar) and Pete Wentz (Bass), after playing in other bands, decided to make they're own band. After over hearing him talking about a band they both like Trohman introduced himself to Patrick Stumb and told him about his band. Patrick would try out for drums, but the band noticed that he had some vocal skills, so he took the front man spot. After doing some small shows without a name, the band asked the crowd for suggestions at one of their shows. After hearing someone yelling it out, the band took the name of Simpson's character Radioactive Man's sidekick. shortly after, Andy Hurley (Drums) would joined the band, and Stump would take on rhythm guitar to fill in the sound. After doing small shows in Chicago and surrounding suburbs, the band signed a deal with indie label Fueled by Ramen. Then in May of 2003, the band released their first full-length album Take This to Your Grave. The album would eventually become a big success and be certified gold thanks to singles like "Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy", "Dead on Arrival", and "Saturday". After the success of the album, the band signed a contract with with Island Records and started recording their next album. Then in May of 2005, the band released their major label debut album From Under the Cork Tree. The album would have huge success and go double Platinum thanks to singles like "Sugar, We're Going Down", "Dance, Dance" and "A Little Less Sixteen Candles a Little More "Touch Me"". The band would go on numerous headlining tours including the Nintendo Fusion Tour which also included The Starting Line and Panic at the Disco. In February of 2007, the band would released their third album Infinity on High, which would go to sell 260,000 copies in it's first week. The album would spawn a couple of good singles in "This Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race", "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". After headlining the Honda Civic Tour, the band started writing a new album and soon headed into the studio to start recording. This week, the band released their fourth album in Folie A Deux.

Artist of the Week: No Doubt

Here's the deal, over the summer I wrote about how I was stoke to hear that this week's artist was gonna have a couple of songs on Rock Band. Only to find out that this wasn't to be. But then in the fall, it was announced on the Rock Band website that No Doubt would have a full album of DLC sometime in the near future. Well my friends, that time has come and this week we'll be able to download 13 full tracks. I'm assuming that most of you know something about this week's artist, but for those of you who don't, here's a little crash course. The band was formed in 1986 with John Spence, Eric & Gwen Stefani. After doing small shows in the Orange County area, bassist Tony Kanal joined the band and soon secretly started dating Gwen. In late 1987, the band was devastated when Spence committed suicide, so they were temporally disbanded. They got back together a couple of months later and Gwen eventually took over vocals. In 1988, Tom Dumont (Guitar) joined the band, follow by Adrian Young (Drums) in 1989. The following year, thanks to it's local popularity, the band signed a multi-album deal with Interscope Records. In 1992 they released they're self-titled debut album which only sold around 30,000 copies. While working on the next album, not happy with the way the studio was running things, Eric Stefani decided to leave the band. Shortly after, Tony would end his seven-year relationship with Gwen. In 1995, the band released the album The Beacon Street Collection, on their own label, which mostly include outtakes from other recordings. That same year the band released one of the highest selling albums in history with Tragic Kingdom. The album centered mostly around the break-up between Tony and Gwen. Thanks to singles like "Just a Girl", "Don't Speak", "Spiderwebs" and "Sunday Morning", the album would go on to be certified diamond and sell over 16 million copies worldwide. The band followed up that album in 2000 with Return to Saturn. Although the album was critically acclaimed, and enjoyed some commercially successful, singles like "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life" failed to reach the top 100 charts. The Following year, the band released Rock Steady which scored two hit Grammy-winning singles, "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All", followed later on by "Running". After they released the album The Singles 1992-2003 and touring with Blink 182, the band announced that they would be taking a hiatus. During this break, Gwen Stefani started a solo career which produced two albums. In May of this year, the band started writing song for a new album, but with Gwen recently giving birth to her second child, the process has been slow but steady. The band plans to begin touring in 2009 while finishing up the album. So far the only confirmed date is May 3rd when they will be headlining the Bamboozle 2009 festival in New Jersey. I'm pretty sure I won't make it out to Jersey, but I can't wait to see them in concert again. That being said, this week's artist is No Doubt with their video Sunday Morning, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: The Get Go

Here's the deal, a couple of years ago, I was very sadden when I found out that one of my favorite bands was breaking up. That band being Chicago natives MEST. After ten years, the band felt it was time to go their separate ways. Lucky for me, I was able to be at their last show. That night is right up there with one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The band that opened for MEST that night was Allister, also from Chicago and one of my favorites. Fast Forward a year and a half later, I found myself at Allister's last show. With the lead singer settling down and about to start a family, they decided to end the band than getting a new singer. But from the end of these two bands, a new beginning was coming. Two of the members from Allister Scott Murphy(Bass) and Kyle Lewis(Guitar) told their fans that they would be putting together a new band, with Nick Gigler(Drums) formally of MEST. The band would also include Chris Dalle-Valle(Vocals) and Nate Thruman(Guitar) formally of another Chicago band Showoff. In July of 2007, the Band released The Get Go EP which included "Face in the Dirt", "You vs Me", "Tonight", and "Hello Again". The band would also release the Hello Again Ep,

but it would only be available in Japan. In May of 2008, after completing a tour which included a couple of sold out shows, the band released a video for "Face in the Dirt". Since then, the band has released a couple of more songs on their Myspace page. The songs include "Target", Somebody's Watching Me" and "Downfall". In September, the band announced that Bassist Scott Murphy had left the band. Since then, he has been replaced with Brian Lee. Recently the band announced that they had finished writing songs for a new album. They plan to release the new album sometime in 2009, but we don't have to wait long for new songs. Cause the band is also releasing a new EP for Christmas. This Tuesday, I'm gonna see these guys at a show, and if it's anything like the last time I saw them, it's gonna be one great night. Artist of the Week: The All-American Rejects

Here's the deal, this week's artist is planing to release a new album in a couple of weeks. But because they recently released a new video for thier first single off that album, I wanted to share it now. But before we get to that, lets get to know the band a little better. The band was formed in 2001 in Stillwater, Oklahoma by Tyson Ritter(Vocals) and Nick Wheeler(Guitar). Later in 2002, Mike Kennerty(Guitar) and Chris Gaylor(Drums) joined the band. After releasing an EP and touring for a while, the band signed a contract with Doghouse Records. They spent most of the summer recording an album. Then in October of 2002, the band released they're debut self title album The All-American Rejects. Thanks to singles like "Swing, Swing", "The Last Song", "Paper Heart", and "Time Stands Still" The album was able to go platinum. Following the release, the band would go on to do extensive touring all over the world. After two years, the band went back into the studio to work on their second album. Then in July of 2005, the band released Move Along. Thanks to singles like "Dirty Little Secret", "Move Along", and "It Ends Tonight" the album was able to surpass their first album and go Double Platinum. After the release of the album, the band's popularity grew even more. The single "Move Along" was even on the Billboard hot 100 for over six months and was featured in the game Rock Band along with "Dirty Little Secret". After touring, the band decided to take a year off before heading back into the studio, which they did earlier this year. In the fall, they released the first single "Gives You Hell" off the new album, and last week, they released the video. The new album When the World Comes Down

Artist of the Week: Third Eye Blind

Here's the deal, I love new music, but not just from new bands. I love when some of my favorite bands release a new album. But what I love even more then that, is when a band I really enjoy, that hasn't released new music in a long time, releases new music. That's the case with this week's artist, but before we get to that, here's a little recap on the band, in case you're a little rusty. The band was formed back in the early 90s in San Francisco. The band consisted of Stephan Jenkins (Vocals, Guitar), Brad Hargreaves (Drums), Tony Fredianelli (guitar, vocals), and Arion Salazar(Bass) who hasn't been part of the band recently and has been filled in with Leo Kremer. They started like most bands do and recorded two demos, one in 1993 and the other in 1995. The band got their first break in 1996 when they earned the chance to open for Oasis. A perfofmance that was so good, that even though they were the opening band, they were invited back out for an encore. After that night, word got out on the band and they soon found themselves in a bidding war between record labels. They would eventually sign with Elektra Records because they believed it offered the most artistic freedom. Then in 1997 the band released their debut self-titled album Third Eye Blind

which was a huge success selling over 6 million copies worldwide. Most of the success can be attributed to singles like "Semi-Charmed Life", "Graduate", "Losing a Whole Year", "Jumper", and "How's It Going to Be". The band would go on tour which included a stint on U2's Popmart Tour. 1999, The band released their second album Blue which would go on to sell over in 1.25 million copies in the US alone. The album spawned four singles in "Anything", "Never Let You Go", "Deep Inside of You", and "10 Days Late." After recording and touring pretty much nonstop for almost four years, the band decided to take a break. A break they were on til 2003 when they released their third album Out of Vein which spawned two singles in "Blinded" and "Crystal Baller." But despite it's good reviews and it selling over 63,000 copies in the first week, the album only sold around 500,000 copies worldwide. This outcome can mostly be blamed on the band's record label Elektra Records, which at the time was being absorbed into Atlantic Records, and it's failure to promote the album. Since then, the band has pretty much been on hiatus, until now. This Tuesday (11/18), the band is releasing a new EP called Red Star, which contains three new songs "Non Dairy Creamer", "Red Star", and "Why Can't You Be." All of which can be heard on the band's Myspace page. The album and songs will only be sold as digital downloads on iTunes, Amazon, etc. The band is set to release a full album early next year, I for one can't wait. Here's the deal, like most people, I love free stuff, probably even more then most people. If you ever offer me anything free, I'll most likey take it. I'm always on the prowl for free stuff especially online. I mostly do it on my Macbook, which is one of the many things I've gotten for free. You'd be surprised how many free things you could find online, but it's not always easy. Most of the things I find are by word of mouth. If only there was a place that found free stuff for you. Well my friends our prayers might have just been answered. I recently stumbled onto this website called Absurdly Cool Freebie Finder and I think it's found a home on my bookmarks. This website does exactly what the title says. It finds freebies online and brings them all to one absurdly cool place. From free tickets for a movie sneak preview to free music downloads, this website has it all. If you can't find something you like, then you're just too picky. This website has so many other cool things too. When you go to the main page, you'll notice that they'll have a list of freebies on order by date they were found. But if you're to lazy to look through all of that, you can just search for whatever you might be looking for. Maybe you're even lazier then that and don't even wanna navigate to the website, well you can just subscribe to the freebie finder by email or RSS feed. Artist of the Week: Carolina Liar

Here's the deal, as I mentioned in last week's post, I had the opportunity to see The Academy is live in concert this past Thursday. It was an awesome show and I had a great time. What surprised me the most about the show was the opening bands. I usually don't enjoy them that much, because usually they sound nothing like the band I'm actually there to see. That wasn't the case on this particular night. Unfortunately, we got there a little late and missed the first band Hey Monday, which really sucks cause they turned out to be really good. Although the other two bands also turned out to be really good, right now I wanna talk about just one. This band originated from Charleston, South Carolina where singer song writer Chad Wolf grew up. At the age of 22, he would move to Los Angeles where he would make ends meet by doing all sorts of odd jobs. Eventually, Chad would score and internship with song writer Diane Warren who would help him refine and sharpen his writing skills. While still writing songs, Chad continued doing what he could to keep a roof over his which included house sitting for a friend. Who would've guess that friend just happened to know famed Swedish record producer Max Martin. After playing a couple of songs for Max, Chad soon found himself in Sweden recording an album with some of Europe's best producers. Of course he needed a band, so he got an all-Swedish band of Jim Almgren Gandara (Guitar), Johan Carlsson (Keyboards), Rickard Goransson on (Guitar), Max Grahn (Drums), and Erik Haager (Bass). The band would go on to sign with Atlantic Records and then in May of this year, release their debut album Coming to Terms. The album has done pretty good thanks to it's two singles "I'm Not Over" and "Show Me What I'm Looking For." With great songs like these, I know Chad and his band will continue to make great music for years to come. Here's the deal, as you all know, history was made last night, in more ways then one. The country elected it's first African-American president in Barack Obama. It was one of the greatest moments in our country's history, but what would follow, would make this a night to remember. Some people say that when President John F. Kennedy made his first speech, that they were touched, they were moved. I could never truly understand how they felt, but last night, all that changed.

At 10:58PM, President-elect Barack Obama took the stage and delivered a speech to top all speeches. A speech that mentioned the life of Ann Nixon Cooper, a 106-year-old African American voter from Atlanta. A speech that left me speechless and in tears. A speech that I, like most people, will never forget. Thanks to you Barack Obama, we were able to believe in change, and thanks to you, change has come.

Here's the deal, this Thursday, wait is Thursday the 6th? Yes, this Thursday I'll have the privilege of watching this week's artist live in concert. It is the first of two shows that the band is having at the House of Blues. Tickets are still available right here, if you're interested. Any who, having seen them live before, I know the band will put on a great show. But before we get to that, if you haven't already, lets learn a little bit about them. The band originated from a suburb of Chicago, IL known as Hoffman Estates. In 2003, William Beckett(Vocals) and Michael Carden(Guitar) decided to start a band, so they added Adam T. Siska(Bass), Adrian LaTrace Jr(Guitar) and Mike DelPrincipe(Drums) to the group. The band then went into the studio and recorded their debut EP The Academy. After hearing a couple of the songs, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy immediately signed them to his label Fueled by Ramen. In 2004 the band started recording their first album under their new label. After they finished the album and went on a tour, the band went through a line up change with Tom Conrad, replacing LaTrace and Andy Mrotek replaced DelPrincipe. Then on February 8 2005, the band released Almost Here. The album would spawn three great singles in "Checkmarks", "The Phrase That Pays" and "Slow Down". In October 0f 2006, the band had announced that they had parted ways with Tom Conrad, and would be replaced by Michael Guy Chislett. Following this, the band started working on their next album and on April 3, 2007 the band released Santi. The album would spawn three more great singles in "We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands", "Neighbors" and "Everything We Had." Most recently, the band had been working on their third studio album titled Fast Times at Barrington High.

The album was released in August of this year and would sell over 35,000 copies in the first week alone. Most of that success can be attributed to the album's first single "About a Girl" which is one of the bands favorite songs they have ever written. After listening to the album over and over again for the last couple of months, I can't wait for the concert. Here's the deal, I gotta make this short and sweet cause I have something called LittleBigPlanet that I have to get back to. There's a couple of reasons why I pick this band for this week. One, they have a hit song in Rock Band 2 which came out last week (for PS3). Two, they are currently on the Rock Band tour which hits Chicago this week. Three, I think we'll get to number three a little later. First, if you're still not familiar with the band, he's a little recap. This week's band sprung out of Las Vegas a around 4 years ago.
The band currently consists of Ryan Ross (Vocals, Guitar), Brendon Urie (Guitar), Jon Walker (Bass) and Spencer Smith (Drums). After Scoring a contract with Pete Wentz's label Fueled by Ramen in 2004, the band quickly started working on their first album. Then, in 2006 the band released A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.

The album included three great singles in "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage", "But it's Better if You Do" and "I Write Sins Not Tragedies". Thanks to their following on Pure Volume and Myspace, the album went on to sell over 2 million copies. After numerous tours including a head lining tour, they went back to the studio to work on their next album. Then on March 25 2008, they dropped the ! from their name and released their second album "Pretty. Odd."

The album debuted at number 2 on the billboard charts and has sold over 600,000 copies thanks to singles like "Nine in the Afternoon", "Mad as Rabbits" and "The Green Gentleman". They plan to release a fourth single in the near future, and I'm sure it'll do nothing but help sell more albums. Now that you have gotten to know the band a little better, I can tell you the third reason, which is that it's almost Halloween. Here's the deal, those who know me, know that I love Rock Band. It's has to be one of my favorite games of all time, or was. So what's changed you might ask. What could have knocked off Rock Band from my list? Well, Rock Band 2 of course. The new game was just released yesterday (for PS3) and I've been pretty much playing non-stop. The cool think about this week's artist is that they are featured in the game. I wanna get back to playing so I'm gonna make this short and sweet. The band has been around since 1990 when they came together in Fullerton California. The band consists of A.Jay Popoff (Vocals), Jeremy Popoff (Guitar), Kevin Baldes (Bass) and Allen Shellenberger (Drums). After two name changes, the band finally settled with their current name in 1996. The band was not well known, but that all changed in 1999 with the release of their album A Place in the Sun.

The album would go on to reach platinum thanks to the help of singles like "Zip-Lock", "Miserable" and "My Own Worst Enemy" which was number one on the billboard charts for three months straight. The album would take the band all over the world in hundreds of shows, including a spot in Woodstock 1999. In 2001 the band released their next album Atomic. Although it wasn't as successful as their last album, it did reach the top 10 thanks to singles like "Lipstick And Bruises" and "Addicted". Shortly after the release of the album, the band asked for their release from their contract. In 2004, the band released a self-titled album under the DRT Entertainment label. The album produced three great singles in "Looks Like They Were Right", "Needle & Thread" and "Times Like This". Sadly the album had little success due to lack of promotion on the label's side. In May of this year, the band announced that drummer Allen Shellenberger was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Since then, the band has had numerous benefit shows to support their band mate who is currently receiving treatment. The shows have included bands like Sugar Ray and No Doubt. The band has also hinted at writing some new songs, and re-releasing their self-titled album, but no word on a new album. That being said, this week's artist is Lit with their video My Own Worst Enemy, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Rise Against

Here's the deal, just like last week, this week's artist has just released a new album. Besides them being two of my favorite bands, that's pretty much where the similarities end. But just to make sure, let's get to know them a little better, and who knows. We might just find something else they have in common. The band came together in Chicago back in 1999. Although the band has seen a couple of line-up changes, Tim McIlrath (Vocals, Guitar) and Joe Principe (Bass) have always been the norm. The current line-up includes Brandon Barnes (Drums) and Zach Blair (Guitar). In 2000, they signed with a label and started recording their first album. They released The Unraveling in 2001 and Revolutions per Minute in 2003. Although the band toured extensively to promote both albums, they did not get the success they wanted. What they did get was the attention of some major labels. In 2003, the band signed with Dreamworks records and started recording their next album. At this time, Dreamworks was bought by Universal Music Group and the band's contract was taken over by Geffen Records. Then in August of 2004, the band released Siren Song of the Counter Culture. The album was a huge success thanks to singles like "Give it All", "Life Less Frightening" and "Swing Life Away" which made it to #12 in The Billboard top 200. The band would help promote the album by touring all over the world during the Taste of Chaos and Warped Tour, with bands like Story of the Year, The Used and Alkaline Trio. In 2005, the band went back into the studio to record their next album. Then in July of 2006, the band released The Sufferer & the Witness. The album would jump to #10 on the Billboard top 200 thanks to singles like "Prayer of the Refugee", "Ready to Fall", and "The Good Left Undone". The band would go on tour with My Chemical Romance as well as their own headlining tour in support of the album. During the tour, they announced that they would begin working on a new album in early 2008 and try for a summer release. Well it wasn't a summer release, but they still got it to us and that's all that matters. Last week, the band released their new album Appeal to Reason.

I haven't heard every song yet, but from what I have, I can tell that this is gonna be another great album. That being said, this week's artist is Rise Against with their video and first single Re-Education (Through Labor), enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Jack's Mannequin

Here's the deal, as most of you know, for most artist of the week, I like to pick bands that have something going on at the time. Whether it be a concert, a new single, or in this case a new album. Well last week one of my favorite bands released a new album. It's their first album in three years, with so much time between albums, lets hope they haven't skipped a beat. But before we get to that, lets get to know the band a little. The band was formed in Orange County in 2004 as a side project of Andrew McMahon, when he was also the singer for the band Something Corporate. It all started when Andrew wrote a song that he didn't see fitting in with the Something Corporate sound. So while the band decided to take a break, Andrew started writing more songs. He eventually started recording the songs, and scored a deal with Maverick Records. He formed a band with Bobby Anderson(Guitar), Jonathan Sullivan(Bass), and Jay McMillan(Drums). Then in August of 2005, they released their first album Everything in Transit. The album would reached #37 in the billboard 200 to date selling over 250,000 copies thanks to singles like "Dark Blue" and "The Mixed Tape". After the release of the album, the band schedule a tour but was sadly cancelled when Andrew was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant. Andrew would eventually make a full recovery and finally go on tour. The band began recording their second album in the summer of 2007. They had planned to release the album in April of 2008, but was pushed back to June and then pushed back again. But eventually, on September 30 the band release The Glass Passenger.

After giving the album a listen, I've found that it's the same great band that we love. I wished the album would've gotten a little more promotion, but what can you do, but plug it yourself. That being said, this week's artist is Jack's Mannequin with their video and first single The Resolution, enjoy.

Here's the deal, I was watching Ugly Betty last week, yes I watch Ugly Betty. I can't help it, I'm in love with America Ferrera. So like I was saying, I was watching the show, and the episode ended with a with a great song. It's a song that I really like, so much that I've been singing it nonstop ever since. But before we get to the song, lets learn a little bit about the band. I could sit here and write about all the band's hit albums and hit singles, but nobody has that kind of time. All thought the band has gone through a couple of line up changes, the three men that formed the band have always been the constant. Them being Mike Campbell(Lead Guitar), Tom Petty(Guitar, Vocals) and Benmont Tench (Piano, Keyboard). Together, they have released tons of great music for over 30 years. They have released 16 albums, which included some greats such as Damn The Torpedoes, Let Me Up (I've Had Enough), Into The Great Wide Open and of course, they're self title debut. From those albums and others, the band has released over 30 hit singles. Some of my favorites being "American Girl", "Free Falling", and "Mary Jane's Last Dance". With all this great music behind them, you would think they have nothing left. But I wouldn't be surprised if the band keeps it going for more years to come. Artist of the Week: Travis Barker

Here's the deal, as most of you know, this past weekend musician Travis Barker was in a plane crash that left him and fellow performer DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) critically injured. The two were returning home to California after preforming at a free concert in Columbia, SC. Early reports say that one of the plane's tires blew out, causing the plane to over take the runway and go through a fence then finally coming to a stop on a small hill next to a highway. Sadly four people were killed in the crash, Pilot Sarah Lemmon, co-pilot James Bland, assistant Chris Baker, and security guard Charles Still. The two artists were able to make it out of the plane, but suffered second and third degree burns. Although the burns might take up to a year to heal, both artist are said to make a full recovery. As most of you know, blink-182 is my favorite band. So when I first heard about this, I was like most fans, really worried. Travis Barker is a great musician, and losing him would be a huge loss in the music world. Besides being an amazing drummer, Travis can also play guitar and the piano. He is also a talented song writer, producer and fashion designer with his clothing line Famous Stars & Straps. With his many talents, it's no surprise that his been a part of many projects that include but are not limited to blink-182, The Transplants, Boxcar Racer, Queens of the Stone Age and +44. Here's the deal, as some of you might know, Carlos Zambrano of the Chicago Cubs pitched a no hitter tonight against the Houston Astros. It was an awesome moment, not just because I've never seen a Cubs pitcher pitch a no hitter in my lifetime, the last being Milt Pappas in 1972, but because it was Carlos Zambrano. After the game, Zambrano talked about how every year that he's at the Cubs convention, Pappas tells him that he was gonna be the next one, well he was right. So what does this have to do with the Artist of the Week? You'll see, but first let's get to know the band.
The band was formed in Boston in 1998 with Stacy Jones(Vocals & Guitar), Jamie Arentzen(Lead Guitar), Drew Parsons(Bass) and Brian Nolan(Drums). In 2001, the band would break on to the scene with the release of their self-titled debut American Hi-Fi. The album would be a big success thanks singles like "Another Perfect Day" and "Flavor of the Weak" which made it to #5 on the billboard modern rock charts. After doing some touring, the band went back to to the studio to record their follow up album. Then in early 2003, the band released The Art of Losing. The album would have pretty good success with singles "The Art of Losing" and "The Breakup Song". Shortly after, the band's contract with Island Records would come to the end, but that didn't stop them. In early 2004, the band headed to LA to work on their next album. In 2005, the band was signed to Maverick Records, then in April the band released .Hearts on Parade. The album enjoy some success thanks to singles "Hell Yeah!" And "The Geeks Get The Girls". After the release of the album, the band were involved in a couple of side projects, including having a song in the Superman Returns soundtrack with "The Rescue". In mid 2007, After taking a short hiatus, the band said they would be working on a new album. In January of 2008, the band gave the fans a little taste by adding two new songs, "Keep It Like A Secret" and "A Taste For Crime", to their Myspace page. The new album is planned to be released in late 2008. So what does this all have to do with Carlos Zambrano pitching a no hitter? Well every year at the Cubs convention, they show a video with the best highlights of the season. They even include some music that fits the situation. Here's the deal, this week's band has a new album coming out this week, so I thought it would be a perfect time to showcase them. But before we get to that, lets learn a little bit about them. The band first came together in Geneva, New York in 1997. The band first started out with Travis "Schleprok" McCoy(Vocals), Matt McGinley(Drums) and two other friends. After a couple of years of playing small shows and venues, those two friends decided to leave the band. They would then be replaced by Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo(Guitar) and Eric Roberts(Bass). The band would continue to tour and later get the attention of Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump. After he heard the band's song "Taxi Driver", Stump invited the band to one of his shows. The band would go on to sign with Pete Wentz's label, Decaydance Records, an imprint of Fueled by Ramen. In 2005, the band would get their first break with the release of The Papercut Chronicles. The album, which included the singles "Taxi Driver" and "Cupid's Chokehold" would enjoy some success. In 2006, the band released their next album As Cruel as School Children. The album would be a huge success thanks to singles like "The Queen and I", "Shoot Down The Stars", "New Friend Request", "Clothes Off" and the re-release of "Cupid's Chokehold". After touring with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Gwen Stefani and Plain White t's, the band went back to the studio to work on their next album. The album titled The Quilt is due out this Tuesday (9/9). Here's the deal, yeah I know I'm a little late, but I got stuck at my brother's house yesterday for an impromptu Entourage marathon. Well that's over, for now anyways, so let's just jump right into it. This week's band started out of the Chicago land area back in 1997. Like most bands they started by playing small shows. most of which that took place at the famed Metro. In 2000, the band released it's first album Come on Over which included one of my favorite songs, "Kitty Kat Shirt". Soon after, the band would go through a transformation. The new line up would go as follows: Tom Higgenson(Vocals), Dave Tirio(Guitar), Tim Lopez(Guitar), Mike Retondo(Bass) and De'Mar Hamilton(Drums). In 2002, the band would release their second album with Stop, The album would include some great songs in "Fireworks", "A Lonely September" and "Radios in Heaven". In 2005, the band would release their third album and first studio album with All That We Needed. The album would become a success with the help of the singles "All That We Needed", "Take Me Away" and "Hey There Delilah". The following year, the band would release their fourth album with Every Second Counts. Although the album already had two great singles in "Hate(I Really Don't Like You)" and "Our Time Now". Seeing the success of the previous released EP, the band re-released Every Second Counts with "Hey There Delilah" as a bonus track. Doing so would launch the single to number one, and the album to number ten on the billboard hot 100. Most recently, the band had been working on a new album, the process of which they documented and are currently releasing on ABCFamily.com. The new album is called Big Bad World and is due to hit stores on September 23. The band has already released the first single and video with "Natural Disaster". They sure have done a lot in a little over a decade that they've been together and for all you Cubs fans out there, here's a little bonus. The band will have the honor of singing the national anthem this Wednesday (9/3) at Wrigley Field. I don't know about you, but I know I'll be there. Here's the deal, anyone who lives in the Chicago area has one time or another gone to Lincoln Park Zoo. Not just because they like animals, or they're nothing else to do, but mostly because it's free. Come on, just admit it, I'm not embarrassed to say it. But I digress, the reason the zoo is able to stay free all year long is because of events like Jammin' at the Zoo. Jammin' at the Zoo is a concert series that takes place every summer at Lincoln Park Zoo. This year's Jammin' at the Zoo included acts by Blondie, Blind Melon and this week's artist, but before we get to that, here's a brief history lesson. The band was formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota back in 1983. In 1984, they released their debut album, Say What You Will... Everything Can Happen. They would go on to release eight more albums during their career. Their most successful album was in 1992 with Grave Dances Union which reached double platinum and included the hit single "Runaway Train." Their next album Let Your Dim Light Shine,
included the hit "Misery" which made it to the top 20 singles, but could not reach their previous album's success. The song is also feature at the end of the hit movie Clerks 2. So when you get that "Where have I heard that before" feeling, you'll know the answer. In 2006 the band released their last album to date with The Silver Lining. Here's the deal, I was suppose to go see this band tonight at the Metro, but because of a schedule change, I now have to work. Any who, let me tell you a little about this week's artist. Just like last week's artist, this band started out as a side project for Shaant Timothy Hacikyan(Singer) and Jeff Czum(Lead Guitarist). The band would later fill in with Tom Falcone(Drums) and Fred Cimato at first, then later Dave Melillo(Bassist). In November of 2005, the band announced that they had a signed with Fueled by Ramen. It wouldn't take long for the band to release their first album, when in June of 2006, The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch hit stores. The album would spawn three great singles in "There's a Class for This", "Curse of Curves" and "Newport Living". All of which would help the album sell over 200,000 copies. In 2007, the band got to join Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, and Gym Class Heroes on the Young Wild Things tour. Following that, the band went back into the studio to record their next album. Then in June of 2008, the band released Rotation.

From Logan Square to Beijing thru Mexico

Here's the deal, as most of you know, the summer Olympic games will begin in Beijing this Friday (8/8). It's one of the biggest spectacles in not just sports, but in life. Millions of athletes have to try out, compete, and qualify just for the chance to participate in the games. To some, just being at the games is a dream come true, let alone winning a medal. Well there's one person I know who will be participating at the games, and the way he earn his chance is very unique. A couple of weeks ago, my brother, his girlfriend and I went to a new ice cream shop that opened up near my house called Heavenly. It's a nice and small cafe where they serve pretty good gelato and ice cream. While we were in there, we notice some newspaper clippings on the wall. That's when the women behind the counter told us that the story was about her son, who was going to the Olympics. His name, Lawrence "Larry" Langowski Mendoza. See, Larry is a 22 year old kid who was born of a Mexican mother, Maria Guadalupe Mendoza and a Polish father, Lawrence Langowski. He grew up like most kids playing many sports such as Basketball, Baseball and Football, until the 8th grade when he discovered Olympic style wrestling. He would continue his passion while attending and then graduating from Gordon Tech High School. He would then go on to Northwestern University where he was also a part of the wrestling team. But it would be his vacations to Mexico to visit family that would get him the chance of a lifetime. While in Mexico City, Larry requested permission to train with the Mexican Wrestling Federation while on vacation there. They not only let him train, but they invited him to participate in a match. After seeing what he could do, they invited him to more competitions. Eventually this is how he would earn a spot on the Mexican wrestling team for international competitions. See Larry was able to do this because he has double citizenship, Mexican and American.

“I could well compete representing the United States, but I began in Mexico and there are rules in international competitions that have to be respected”, Larry said in an interview with Hoy Newspaper. “I feel proud. Doubtlessly it's an honor to represent anyone of my nationalities. Nevertheless, to represent Mexico is something special, I represent my culture, my roots; since I was a boy, I've held Mexico in my heart, because I am Mexican.”

Larry has passed all the tests to compete in the Olympic games. He will be representing Mexico in free style wrestling, 120kg weight class. In his mother's home in Logan Square, she has a small table in her living room where she keeps all the medals her son has won. She has recently made an extra space on the table, just in case. So now knowing this story, I urge you to watch the games and support Larry in his pursuit of a medal. I leave you now with some words from Larry.

Here's the deal, this past week, MTV announced the Rock Band Live Tour to promote the upcoming release of Rock Band 2. The tour will span 29 cities starting in San Diego on October 5Th and ending in Houston on November 14. The tour will have The Cab and Plain White T's as the opening acts and will be co-headlined by Panic at the Disco and this week's artist. Speaking of this week's artist, let me tell you a little bit about them. The band originated as a side project for singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba. In 2000 he recorded his first album Swiss Army Romance. The following year, he left his original band and turned his side project into his full time project. In 2001, Chris recorded and release his follow up album The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most. Thanks to two great singles in "Screaming Infidelities" and "Saints and Sailors", the album was able to go gold. In 2002, following the success of that album, the band was asked to perform for MTV Unplugged. The performance would be recorded, released and go platinum. In 2003, the band released its third album A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar. This album also went gold with the help of single "Hands Down". In 2004, the band scored a hit single of the Spider-man 2 soundtrack with "Vindicated". Two Years later, the band released their fourth album with Dusk and Summer. The album would spawn two hit singles in "Don't Wait" and "Stolen". In late 2007, they released their fifth album in The Shade of Poison Trees which has spawn two singles in "Thick as Thieves" and "These Bones". The band is due to release their next album this fall, and with the upcoming tour, I'm sure they'll be plenty busy. Artist of the Week: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Here's the deal, this week's band really doesn't need an introduction. So I won't give them one, but I will give you a brief history lesson, just in case you've been living on Mars or something. The band was formed in Los Angeles, California back in 1983. The band line up has pretty much always consisted of Anthony Kiedis(Vocalist), John Frusciante(Guitarist), Michael "Flea" Balzary(Bassist), and Chad Smith(Drummer). Although the band released four albums in the 80s, they didn't make it big til 1991 with their release of Blood Sugar Sex Magik Thanks to singles like "Give it Away", "Under The Bridge" and "Suck my Kiss", the album was a huge success and went on to sell over 12 million copies. Shortly after, drug addiction started to take it's toll on Frusciante, and he decided to quit the band in 1992. in 1995, the band released their next album One Hot Minute with the help of Dave Navarro, but sadly the album wasn't as successful as their last. In April of 1998, due to some problems with drugs and what the band called "creative differences" Navarro was fired from the band. That same year, after having many problems with drugs himself, Frusciante admitted himself to a rehab center. When he completed his treatment, former band-mate Flea visited Frusciante and openly invited him to re-join the band. An invitation that he happily accepted, and within a couple of days, the original band was reformed and had started working on their next album. Then in June of 1999, Californacation was released. The Album which included singles "Scar Tissue", "Otherside" and "Californacation" went on to sell over 15 million copies. In 2001, the band went back to the studio to work on their next album. Then in July of 2002, they released By The Way. The album sold over 700,000 copies in it's first week and produced some great singles in "By The Way", "Can't Stop" and "The Zephyr Song". In 2003, the band recorded two new songs, "Fortune Faded" and "Save the Population" which they included in their Greatest Hits album which was released in November of that year. In 2006, the band released their next album Stadium Arcadium. The initial plan was to release the 38 recorded tracks in three separate albums spaced six months apart. Instead, they released 28 of the tracks in a double album and later released the remaining 10 as b-sides. The album was the first for the band to debut as #1 by selling over 1.1 million copies on it's first week worldwide. The album also produced three consecutive #1 singles in "Dani California", "Tell Me Baby" and "Snow(Hey Oh)". Although the band is currently on a break, they have said that they will be returning to the studio in September of this year. Here's the deal, last week I talked about the rumored track list from Rock Band 2. Well this past week at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) the real track list was revealed, and it turned out that No Doubt wasn't on there. Yeah I know sad, but I'm sure they'll have some DLC (Down loadable Content) for them in the near future. Even though No Doubt wasn't on the list, this week's band was. I'm really excited about playing this song cause it has a great guitar solo. But first, lets get to know this band a little better. The band was formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993 when long time friends Jim Adkins (Singer/Guitarist) and Zach Lind (Drummer) joined up with Tom Linton (Guitarist) and Mitch Porter (Bass Guitar). The band got it's name from Linton's younger brothers, Jim and Ed, who would always have arguments with Jim usually winning. Ed retaliated by drawing a picture of Jim eating the world. The band began like most bands, recording EP's and singles followed by touring. In 1995 the band got the attention of Capitol Records who would eventually sign them. Right before they went into the studio, Mitch Porter decided to leave the band and was replaced by Linton's friend Rick Burch. Once they got into the studio, the band recorded its major-label debut album, Static Prevails. The band would continue to tour, then in 1998, the band went back to the studio to record it's next album titled Clarity. After the released, the band found themselves performing in front of bigger and bigger crowds, mostly likely due to the success of their single "Lucky Denver Mint." Even with this success, the band was dropped from their label in late 1999, but the band would not let that slow them down. They still went through with a European tour. They even bought copies of their own album, out of their own pocket, to send to Europe. When they returned, the band got day jobs and saved every cent they could to buy studio time for their next album. In 2001, they finished the album, which was titled Bleed American. Soon, the band started scouting for a new label and the result was a short bidding war, which included former label Capitol Records. The band would eventually sign with DreamWorks. The album was released in July of 2001, but after the 9/11 attacks, the band would re-release the album as a self-titled album to avoid any misinterpretation. The album would produce several singles with the second one "The Middle", being their most successful to date with it reaching #5 on Billboards hot 100. Others singles include "Sweetness", "A Praise Chorus" and of course Bleed American. After an extensive tour in support of Bleed American, in 2004, the band went back to the studio to record their follow-up album. In October of that year, the band released the album Futures, under Interscope Records who had acquired Dreamworks. They album would spawn two great singles in "Pain" and then later on "Work". After touring with great bands such as Taking Back Sunday and Green Day, the band went back into the studio once more to work on their next album. This album would be a little different with it being self-produced by the band. Then, in October of 2007, the band released Chase the Light. The album has produced two great singles in "Big Casino" and "Always Be". The band has recently said that after their current tour ends, they will head back home and start working on a new album. Who knows what great work they might produce next. That being said, this week's artist is Jimmy Eat World, with their video The Middle, enjoy.

Here's the deal, as most of you know, I'm a huge fan of RockBand. So when I heard about the rumored set list for the new RockBand 2, I was stoked to see this week's artist on the list. For those of you who don't know this band, here's a little crash course. The Band was formed in 1986 with John Spence, Eric & Gwen Stefani. After doing small shows in the Orange County area, bassist Tony Kanal joined the band and soon started dating Gwen but in secret. In late 1987 Spence committed suicide and the band was temporally disbanded. They got back together a couple of months later and Gwen eventually took over vocals. In 1988, guitarist Tom Dumont joined the band, follow by drummer Adrian Young in 1989. The following year, thanks to it's local popularity, the band signed a multi-album deal with Interscope Records. In 1992 they released they're self-titled album which only sold around 30,000 copies. While working on the next album, not happy with the way the studio was running things, Eric Stefani left the band. Soon after that, Tony would end his seven-year relationship with Gwen. In 1995, the band released the album The Beacon Street Collection, on their own label, which mostly include outtakes from other recordings. That same year they would release one of the highest selling albums in history with the album Tragic Kingdom The album centered mostly around the break-up between Tony and Gwen. Thanks to singles like "Just a Girl", "Don't Speak", "Spiderwebs" and "Sunday Morning", the album would go on to be certified diamond and sell over 16 million copies worldwide. They band followed up that album in 2000 with Return to Saturn. Although the album critically acclaimed, and enjoyed some commercially successful, singles like "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life" failed to reach the top 100 charts. The Following year, the band released Rock Steady which scored two hit Grammy-winning singles, "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All". Later on they released the single "Running". After they released the album The Singles 1992-2003 and touring with Blink 182, the band announced that they would be taking a hiatus. During this break, Gwen Stefani started a solo career which produced two albums. Recently though, the band announced that they had started working on a new album that can be out as soon as early 2009. I don't know about you, but I can't wait. Artist of the Week: Boys Like Girls

Here's the deal, another week another artist, so let's get to it. Like usual, there's a reason why I picked this band as my Artist of the Week. Yeah, they're a great band but the reason I picked this week for them is because they're doing a show this Tuesday (7/8) at the Congress Theater. Sadly I won't be able to go because of work, but I'm sure I can catch them next time. Any who, this band's story started in Boston in late 2005. Singer/guitarist Martin Johnson had written a couple of sons and wanted to record some. He teamed up with bassist Bryan Donahue and drummer John Keefe who then brought along lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni. The band then opened a PureVolume account to show off their music. The uploaded an acoustic version of "Thunder" and a rough demo of "The Great Escape". Before the year was over, that band had made it to #1 on PureVolume's Top Unsigned Artists chart. It wasn't long after that for the studios to take notice. In late February, with the help of booking agent Matt Galle and record producer Matt Squire, the band started their first nationwide tour. At the end of the tour, the band went into the studio to record their first album. In June, the band started another tour opening for Cute is What We Aim For. Then on August 22, 2006, the band released their debut self-titled album Boys Like Girls.
Although it only racked up 1,472 units within its first week of sales, with constant touring and promotion the album went on to be a hit. And with the help of three singles, "Hero/Heroine", "The Great Escape" & "Thunder", the album has gone on to sell over 500,000 copies. Currently, the band is on tour with Good Charlotte in The Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour. Artist of the Week: Saves The Day

Here's the deal, I know it's Tuesday and I'm running a little behind on my Artist of the Week. See, I was at Wizard World Chicago Comic book Convention all weekend, and I was at the Taste of Chicago yesterday. So as you can see, I've been pretty busy. As for today, I can just rest, relax and catch up on things, like this. So lets get to it. This week's artist is this cool band that pops into my head every once in a while. But before we get to that, let's find out a little bit more about them. The band started out from New Jersey in 1997. Although the band has gone through many line-up changes, two members, Chris Conley and guitarist David Soloway, have pretty much been the norm. In the beginning the band had a hardcore punk rock sound. They released three album's, Can't Slow Down, Through Being Cool and I'm Sorry I'm Leaving. In 2001, the band started movie away from that with the release of Stay What You Are. The new album had more of a pop sound and because of which, was enjoyed by another genre. The band then went on to have a major hit with the video to "At Your Funeral", which happens to be my favorite song. with the success of this album, The band went on to sign with a major record label in Dreamworks Records. In 2003 the band released In Reverie under Dreamworks and Vagrant, but sadly the album received no support from Dreamsworks. Shortly after that, Dreamworks Records was bought by Interscope Records, who dropped the band. In 2004 They finished their contract with Vagrant with the release of Ups and Downs: Early Recordings and B-Sides. But on January 30, 2006 the band re-signed with Vagrant and later released Sound The Alarm. This album was the first installment of a trilogy that tells the a story about self-discovery. The second album Under The Boards, was released 2006. Followed by the third album Daybreak which is due out this year. When asked about the albums, front man Chris Conley commented: “Sound The Alarm is an expression of discontent. Under The Boards is reflection and remorse. Daybreak is acceptance.” I can't wait to find out how it all turns out. That being said, this week's artist is Saves The Day with their video At Your Funeral, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Local H

Here's the deal, this week's artist is another one of those bands that most people might have never heard of. They're actually doing a show tonight (6/22/08) at the Metro, but sadly I won't be there cause I'm working. It just happens to be down the street at Wrigley. Any who, the band originated close to the Chicago area from a place called Zion, Illinois. It started with two guys; guitarist/vocalist Scott Lucas and drummer Joe Daniels. After failing to recruit a bassist, Lucas just added bass pickups to his electric guitar. Making him the guitarist/vocalist/bassist. Sounds like a hand full, but he pulls it off. In 1995 the band released their first album album called Ham Fisted, but their follow up album was their first success. In 1996 they released As Good As Dead, which featured the popular singles "Bound For The Floor" and "Eddie Vedder". In 1998 the band released their next album Pack Up The Cats which introduced the hit "All The Kids Are Right". Sadly after this album the band's record label, PolyGram, merged with Universal and the album was pretty much lost in the shuffle. In 1999, drummer Joe Daniels left the band and was replaced by Brian St. Clair, who had worked with other Chicago bands such as Liz Phair and Cheap Trick. Together, in 2002, they released the band's fourth album Here Comes the Zoo which included the dark but still fan favorite song "Hands on the Bible". Their next album entitled Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles featured one of my favorite songs from the band in "California Songs". This past May the band released their seventh album entitled 12 Angry Months.

The album is about the experiences you encounter during a break-up, with each track representing a month in the year. The first single is "24 Hour Break-Up Session". I've only heard a couple of tracks so far, but from that I can tell it's a good album. That being said, this week's artist is Local H with their video California Songs, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Eels

Here's the deal, when I got up this morning, I didn't know who was gonna be my Artist of the Week. I was thinking about it last night, but couldn't come up with anything. So this morning I got up, made myself some s'mores for breakfast and then started watching TV with my sister who was watching Along Came Polly. It's a pretty funny movie starting Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston. One of the things I enjoyed about the movie was the music. With songs like Bob Marley's Jammin' and Beck's Lost Cause, what's not to love. But there's one song in the movie that I really love. It's one of those songs that after hearing it, you're always in a good mood. That song being the "Eel's Mr. E's Beautiful Blues".

If you're not familiar with the Eels, he's a quick history lesson. The band was formed in 1995 when Mark Oliver Everett aka E and drummer Jonathan "Butch" Norton met Tommy Walter. They were one of the first bands to sign with Dreamworks and in 1996 they released they're debut album Beautiful Freak. With their melancholy sound and their first single "Novocaine for the Soul", the band was able to achieve moderate success. One of the songs My beloved Monster was even featured in the Shrek Soundtrack. While writing their next album, E experienced a very bad time in his life. Several of his friends died, his sister committed suicide and his mom was diagnosed with cancer. With all that, the band's second album Electro-Shock Blues became a really dark album. While it didn't have much commercial success, the album is still considered a fan favorite. In 2000, the band released their next album Daisies of the Galaxy. This is the album that has my favorite song from the band, that being "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues". Since then, the band has released three more albums and just recently a greatest hits album. They've had songs in American Beauty, Road Trip, all three Shrek movies and the show Scrubs. With all that, if you still say that you've never heard them, all I can say is LIAR!!!! But just in case you've been living on the moon or something, I can help you out. That being said, this week's artist is the Eels with their video Mr. E's Beautiful Blues, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Weezer

Here's the deal, unlike last week, this week's artist is a band that has been around for a while and I've enjoyed them for most of that time. This band was formed way back in 19 diggty-two, sorry, I mean 1992. Since then, they have released six albums: The Blue Album, Pinkerton, The Green Album, Maladroit, Make Believe and most recently The Red Album.
Those six albums combined have sold over 7 million copies, with their debut album going triple platinum. With their unique sound, Weezer has released countless great singles including; "Undone (The Sweater Song)", "Buddy Holly", "El Scorcho", "Island in the Sun", "Photograph", "Keep Fish'in", and "Pefect Situation", just to name a few. Their latest single has a music video that got over 1.2 million views on it's first day and is now over 7 million. The video features many "youtube celebs" with most of them singing the song. Director Matthew Cullen said the video was to be a "celebration of that creativity" and that he wanted to embrace the concept of "about being happy with who you are". Artist of the Week: Flobots

Here's the deal, another week another artist so lets get to it. This week's artist is a little different then usual. Mostly cause it's not alternative, but a hip hop group. It feels like this artist popped out of nowhere, but they've been around longer then most people know. The indie group was formed in Denver, Colorado in 2005. In October of that year, the band released their first album Flobots Present...Platypus. Even though the album only sold around 3,000 copies, they were still able to land a spot opening for Colorado locals The Fray at Red Rocks. In October of 2007, the group released their second album: Fight With Tools.
Later on that year, they entered a radio contest called Hometown for the Holidays. The contest allowed fans to vote for their favorite songs from 35 local bands. The group ended up wining both the radio and the live performance portion of the contest. As a result, the station put the group's single "Handlebars" into full rotation. A couple of months later the group signed with Universal Republic to a 2 CD deal. Since then, the single "Handlebars" has become very popular and has even spawn a new music video. With it being played on radio stations all over the country, who knows how big this group can get. That being said, this week's artist is Flobots with their video Handlebars, enjoy.

Artist of the Week: Panic at the Disco

Here's the deal, another week another artist, so lets get to it. So last night I was at the Honda Civic Tour. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a yearly music tour sponsored by, you guessed it, the Honda Civic. Despite the name, it's a concert I look forward to every year. Last year's show was really good with four out of the five bands that played (Cobra Starship, The Academy is, +44 and Fall Out Boy) putting on a great show. This year was no different with all four bands playing being bands that I know and enjoy. Those bands being: Phantom Planet, The Hush, Motion City Soundtrack and Panic! at the Disco. Even though they are all pretty good bands, this week is about just one of them. If you don't know, Panic! at the Disco is a band from Las Vegas that sprung up a little less than 4 years ago. After signing with Pete Wentz's label Fueled by Ramen, they released their first album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.

The album included the singles "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage", "But it's Better if You Do" and "I Write Sins Not Tragedies". Thanks to their following on Pure Volume and Myspace, the album went on to sell over 2 million copies. After numerous tours including a head lining tour, they went back to the studio to work on their next album. So on March 25 2008, they dropped the ! from their name and released their second album "Pretty. Odd."

The album made it to number 2 on the billboard charts and in just over a month, it has sold over 500,000 copies. With the recent release of a new single, "The Green Gentleman", I'm sure this album can top the last. That being said, this week's artist is Panic at the Disco with their video Nine in the Afternoon, enjoy.

Who Should Get to Carry The Captain America Shield

Here's the deal, as most people know, Iron man was released earlier this month and it broke box office records. Yeah, I know they say that about pretty much every movie now a days, but it's true. Iron Man is also the first Marvel movie released that was made by Marvel's own studio, called of course, Marvel Studios. With Iron Man doing great and The Incredible Hulk do up this summer. It didn't take Marvel long to announce some of their future projects. Marvel announced Iron Man 2 and Thor for 2010, followed by Captain America and The Avengers in 2011. Like most Marvel fans, I was super excited to hear about this. Also like most Marvel fans, I wanted to know who they would cast for these movies. Of course Robert Downey Jr. is reprising his role as Tony Stark, but who will fill in the other roles? Of course I have my own ideas of who they can use. I can probably think of somebody for each Marvel hero, but there's only one hero I believe has a perfect match. That hero being Captain America.
Without a doubt, Captain America is one of the best superheroes in comic book history. Time after time, against all odds he has come out on top. If you don't know his story, here's a quick recap. Steve Rogers was born on July 4, 1917 in New Your City. In the early days of World War II, Rogers tried to enlist in the army, only to be rejected due to his tall but scrawny physic. All Rogers ever wanted to do was to serve his country. An Army officer saw this and offered Rogers the chance to serve his country by taking part in a top-secret defense project. The project was called Operation: Rebirth, which hoped to develop a means of creating super soldiers. Rogers took the offer and became one of the test subjects. After trial and error, Rogers became the first successful test subject. His strength, endurance, agility, speed, reflexes, and durability were taken to the highest limits of natural human potential. Steve Rogers was transformed from a frail young man to an almost "perfect" specimen. But this triumph was followed by tragedy when the doctor who created the super soldier serum was shot and killed by a Nazi spy. After seeing the doctor die right in front of him, Rogers vowed to oppose all Americas enemies. He was then given a uniform model after the American flag, an impenetrable shield and a code name: Captain America. With the help of his sidekick, James "Bucky" Barnes, Captain America when on to help the Allied forces against the Red Skull and the Nazis.
Together they won many of battles, but that would soon come to an end. While trying to defuse a bomb on a plane, Bucky was blown up and and believe dead. Captain America who was near by was launched into the cold Atlantic waters. Both bodies were never found, until decades later when the Avengers discovered Captain America's body frozen in a block of ice. The same serum that made him a super soldier also kept him alive. After he was revived, he was shocked to find out that he had been frozen in time for so long. While trying to re-adjust to this new world he was in, he realized there was still evil in the world. With his great combat and tactical knowledge, he soon became the leader of the Avengers. He picked up right where he had left off, only now he was fighting a new kind of evil.
So now that you know the history behind the legend, who do you think should play the man behind the mask? To me, there is one actor who I think was made for the part. That actor being Brendan Fraser. To be honest, I never of thought of him for the part until my friend Nadia brought it up. But once she did, it all made sense. Even though Fraser has done some cheesy movies in the past, he has also done some movies that I believe have been preparing him for this role, like The Mummy movies. He plays the kind of old school hero, has a pretty good build and knows how to fight. Not to mention that these movies take place in the 1920s and 30s. The same time period Steve Rogers grew up in. Which would help him relate to how things were back then. That brings me to my next movie, Blast From The Past. In this movie, Fraser play a guy who's parents decide to build and then live in a bomb shelter during the Cuban missile crisis. Not knowing that the nuclear war never happens, they lived and raised their son in the shelter for 35 years. At which time, Fraser leaves the shelter to a whole new world. Come on, it's like they stole the idea of Captain America and turned it into a comedy. In the movie, Fraser is still old fashion since that's the way he was brought up. Steve Rogers is the same way in the comics. I'm telling you, he was made for the part. Right down to that old fashion square face he has. They just don't make them like that anymore ha ha. Well those are some of the reasons why I think Brendan Fraser should play Captain America. You don't have to agree with me, but I wouldn't mind. Oh, and one last thing. Brendan Fraser is rumored to be playing Gung-Ho in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. If it's true, that's just another role that would prepare him for this part.

Here's the deal, another week another artist. This week's artist is one of the most popular artist in the Spanish speaking world. Even if you don't speak Spanish, there's a chance you probably still heard of him. He has released four albums selling over ten million copies combined. His second album Un Dia Normal was his first to go platinum. It's success can be contributed to it's first single "A Dios le Pido" which topped singles charts in twelve countries. The album was so popular, it went gold in Columbia on it's first day. The album also included the song "Fotografia" that featured Nelly Furtado, and is also one of my favorites. He later released two more albums, Mi Sangre which included singles "La Camisa Negra" and "Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor", and then La Vida... Es Un Ratico. The reason I decided to have this artist on this week was because, someone I know was lucky enough to fly California just to see him. Maybe one day I'll get a chance to see him, that being said.

Artist of the Week: Yellowcard

Here's the deal, another week another artist, so lets get to it. There's nothing really special going on with this week's band. They're just one of my favorite bands and I've been listening to them a lot lately. Their last album Paper Walls

is their fourth studio release, and they still find a way to keep coming out with great songs. "Dear Bobbie", "Fighting" and "Five Becomes Four" are just a few of my favorites on this album. They always have the right mix of upbeat songs and soft melodies. Having the violin in there just adds that extra touch that sets them apart. If you've never listen to them, I strongly suggest you check out a couple of songs. I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. That being said, this week's artist is Yellowcard with their video Light up the Sky, enjoy.

A Home Run That Truly Touched Them All

Here's the deal, If you're one of the many people that check the Digg home page on a daily basis. Or if you've seen SportsCenter in the last couple of days. Most likely you've heard about this. It's a story about a college softball game between Western Oregon and Central Washington. It was the second game of a double header and it started just like any normal game. After Western Oregon's 8-1 win in the first game, Central Washington wanted to show they were better then that. So with the game still scoreless in the top of the second inning, and with two runners on, Sara Tucholsky came up to the plate. After taking the first pitch for a strike, she swings away on the next one and hitting it straight to center. As soon as she made contact, she knew it was going out. She had never hit a home run in her entire college career, and with her standing at only 5'2", no one ever expected her to do so. So you can understand her excitement when she forgets to touch first base. She immediately turned around to touch the bag, but something was wrong. While turning around to go for the bag, her knee gave out. She didn't know what was wrong, she just crawled to first base where she laid hugging the bag.

Sara didn't know then, but she had torn her ACL. All she knew was that she was in pain and couldn't walk. Her coach Pam Knox quickly ran to her side, but she knew she or any other member of her team couldn't touch her. Doing so would be an automatic out. Knox knew there was no way that Sara would be able to run the bases. So she went up to the umpire to find out what her options were. she asked if she could substitute Sara with a pinch runner. Sadly, she found out that doing so would negate the home run, making it a two run single. How could she do that, how could she take away Sara's first home run. With it being her senior year, it would also be her last. Left with no other choice but the well being of her player, coach Knox was getting ready to make the change. That's when an idea came from an unlikely source. That source being Mallory Holtman of Central Washington, the opposing team.

Mallory is a four year starter who owns almost every major record in Central Washington history. She knows what it's like being injured having dealt with it early in her career. Mallory was also dealing with an injury at the time on both her knees, but decided to put off surgery until after the season. With her going through that, she knew what that home run meant to Sara. That's when she asked the umpire if it was OK for them to carry her around the bases. After giving her a funny look, the umpire said that there is no rule against that. So Mallory, with the help of her teammate Liz Wallace walked over to Sara and asked if she was OK with it. Sara of course said yes and thanked them so much. They picked her up and slowing started their trip around the diamond, stopping at every base to touch Sara's left foot on it.

While rounding the bases, the girls said that at one point, it starting to seem a little silly and they all laughed. They wondered how this looked to the crowd. When the girls looked up, they didn't see thousands of fans cheering. They saw maybe less then 100 people giving them a standing ovation. Some were smiling, some were crying, but all were filled with emotion. When they got to home plate, Mallory and Liz handed Sara over to her awaiting teammates. They then went back to their positions to continue the game. Central Washington went on to score two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but Western Oregon was able to hang on with a 4-2 win. Western Oregon later when on to clinch it's league title. It's the first conference championship in school history. Though some might say that the story doesn't end there. When asked why she did this, Mallory said "she hit the home run so she deserved for it to count." Even though people see this as a great act, Mallory doesn't. She believes that if she was in Sara's position, Sara or anybody else for that matter, would've done the same thing. Even though this was her final season, Mallory says she is very happy knowing that it ended this way. "It's something people will talk about for Senior Day" Mallory said. "They won't talk about who got hits and what happened and who won; they'll talk about that."

I'd be lying if I said that this story didn't get to me. I've heard it over and over, but it still gets me every time. It's stories like these that show the good in the world. That's why I wanted to share it with everybody. I read a comment about this story that really sums it up. Fellow Digg user Jeff Shininger said,

"I read this the other day and realized that good sportsmanship means you can still have rivalries and competition, but when it comes down to situations that require you to be human, you answer the call."

Artist of the Week: Vampire Weekend

Here's the deal, this week's artist is one of those bands that is making it big, but most people have never even heard their name. They've been together for only two years but have done plenty in the that time. They have been on shows such as Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and even Saturday Night Live. Recently they had one of the most popular shows at SXSW (south by Southwest), and they are currently on a European tour, with most of the shows sold out. So who is this band? Well if you must know, they are called Vampire Weekend. The band is made up of four Columbia University grads from New York. Who said college won't get you anywhere. Their form of indie pop is making them one of the most talked about buzz bands. They were even declared "The Year's Best New Band" by Spin magazine and were the first band ever to be shot for the magazine cover before releasing their debut CD. The self-titled album was released on January 29, 2008 and made it all the way to #17 in Billboards top 100. To be honest, I first heard about them from my cousin who showed me the funny and very cool video for "A-Punk". The music video was directed by Garth Jennings who is also known for directing other videos for bands such as Radiohead and Fatboy Slim. He has also directed two movies: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and more recently, Son of Rambow. With all this going for them, who knows how far they'll make it. Recapping My Artist of the Week

Here's the deal, if you've ever seen my Myspace page, you know that almost every week I have a different artist on my page. For those of you who've never seen it, well, I have a different artist on my page almost every week. I say almost every week cause there has been times where the artist was on there for more then one. It's either cause I wanted to share more music from that artist, or I just couldn't get online to change it. I do this every week and I call it my Artist of the Week. Not very creative I know, but it's short and gets to the point. Usually after I change it, I write a bulletin about it. Photos + Video = Flickr Awesomeness

Here's the deal, it's common knowledge that I love to take photos. It's very rare to see me without my camera. Whether it be at get togethers, parties or work, I hardly go anywhere without it. Well at the end of the day, I like sharing my photos with everybody. After all, my friends always want to see what photos I might be black mailing them with later, (Cough)Eric(Cough) lol. That's where Flickr comes in. For almost a year, Flickr has been the home for my thousands of photos, and it's been great. The thing is, once in a while, I might end up recording some video on my camera. So what can I do when I want to share that video? At first, I uploaded some on to Youtube, Myspace and Facebook, but it kind of sucked having my videos all over place. There was not much I can do since there's no place where I can have my photos and videos together, until now. For the last couple of months, rumors had been floating around the Internet that Flickr would soon be adding video. Of course, everybody loved the idea, if it were true. Well last week, that rumor was made a trumor when Flick announced on their blog that soon is now.

So video on Flickr, it's a dream come true right? Well some people didn't think so. The thing is, just like every other new app that appears online, Flickr video has it's limitations. These limits might change in the future, but for now, only pro members can upload video, but anybody can see them. Of course all videos have to be original content, but they can't be longer then 90 seconds or bigger then 150MB in size. You can still upload video longer then 90 seconds, but only the first 90 seconds will be seen. One good things is that there is no limit on how many videos you can upload. So if you want, you can upload that two hour wedding video. You would just have to spilt it up to 80 separate clips lol. Some people might have been upset with this, but I have no problem with it. I think it's works fine with what flick wanted to do. They don't want to be a Youtube clone, filled with video diaries, music videos and TV shows. They just wanted a place where people can have their videos along with their photos. That's exactly why I love the new Flickr, and I've been taking advantage of it, here's a taste from 4th of July 2006.

As you can see, you can also embed your videos anywhere you want. That's another cool feature I forgot to mention. Even thought all my videos are already in their respective albums, I tagged them with the word "Videos" so they can be easy to find. The New York Mets Got Rick Roll'd!

Here's the deal, there comes a time in every Internet user's life, where he sees a link to video that you just can't wait to see. It could be anything from a celebrity sex tape to a new game or movie trailer. You start to think that it's to good to be true, but you click on it anyways. As you sit there waiting for the video to load, you try to imagine what it's gonna look like. Before long, the video starts, but instead of seeing that great video you were expecting, you are treated to Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. That's when you realized, you have just been Rick Roll'd. At first you might be a little a upset, but after a little while you start to laugh. Then you think to youself, "who can I get to fall for this?" Well if you're one of the many that thought, why not the New York Mets? Well my friend, your dream has come true.

Before we get to the Mets, lets learn a little vocabulary. Some of you might ask, "What the does it mean to be Rick Roll'd?" Well that's a good question. The Urban Dictionary defines Rick Roll'd as: An online prank where the user is unknowingly misdirected to a video of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. So like I was saying before, if you click on a video link and to your surprise you get Rick Astley. You've just been Rick Roll'd. Don't worry, It happens to everybody. I was recently Rick Roll'd on April Fool's Day expecting an interview with Steve Jobs. Now that you know what Rick Roll'd is, lets get to the real story.

So with the Mets about to start their last season at Shea Stadium, they decided to give the fans a voice. See, during every home game, the Mets play a song in the middle of the 8th inning for the fans to sing along to. Last year, the team started playing Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. A tradition that most say was stolen from the Boston Red Sox. I guess the Mets finally got tired of hearing from angry Red Sox fans. Before the season began, the team started an online vote for a new song. They let anybody go on their website and vote for which song they would like. They had ten songs to chose from:

and of course, they had an option for a write-in vote. Well, when the Internets got wind of this, they thought it would be funny if we can get a lot of people to write-in a very funny song. Well what better song then Never Gonna Give You Up? So people all over starting to spread the word. From Fark to Digg, everybody was told to go on the Mets website and write-in their vote. 5 million votes later, Never Gonna Give You Up was announced as the mosted voted song. Well today was opening day for the Mets and in the middle of the 8th, the fans were treated to this.

The New York Mets got Rick Roll'd. It's true, if you don't believe me, here's an article about it in the New Your Post. So what are they to do? They're stuck with the song right? Wrong. The Mets suggested the song getting the most votes didn’t necessarily result in it winning, saying the contest rules stated that Internet voters would “help decide” the outcome. So instead of having that as the new 8th inning song, since it probably isn't what the fans want, the Mets will play the top six selections, one each day during the first six games of their home stand. The one that draws the largest crowd response will be the winning song. As you saw from the video, the crowd wasn't to happy with it. So unless the rest of the songs get an even worse reaction, I don't think we'll be hearing Rick Astley on a daily bases for the Mets. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Why You Can't Trust The Internet on April Fool's Day

Here's the deal, as everybody knows, today is April Fool's Day. The day where you're suppose to pull jokes on everybody. With everybody knowing that, you'd think nobody would fall for any of them, but oh they do. Just right now, my brother told me how my sister called him at work and said his computer and TVs were missing. My brother started to second guess himself about locking the door. That's when he remembered what day it was. So you see, even thought you know it's coming, you can still be victim of an April Fool's Day joke. Except, this blog isn't about jokes you pull on each other, it's about jokes that the Internets pull on all of us. April Fool's Day is that one day of the year you really can't trust anything you read online. This really sucks cause some things you read might sound really cool, but you know it's never gonna happen. Other times, some of the things you read are so stupid, you really hope it's a joke. Well let's take a look at some of this years jokes.

Google is usually good at at April Fool's Day jokes, but one of this year's jokes kind of sucked. Google's home page provided a link to "Virgle," a collaboration on an "open-source" Mars expedition between them and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic. According to this site, starting in 2014, "Virgin founder Richard Branson and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history: Project Virgle, the first permanent human colony on Mars." The site looks somewhat real, you can even apply to be a Virgle Pioneer. Even with all that, who would actually fall for this? I'm sure Google put a lot of thought into this, but in the end, it just doesn't compare with previous years. One the other hand, Google also showed of the Gmail Custom Time feature, which is said to let users send e-mails into the past, sort of. The way it works is, you send an email today, but the recipient would get it with yesterday's date, making it so you don't miss an important deadline. The new feature utilizes an "e-flux capacitor" to resolve issues of causality. This would give students extra time to do that homework assignment, if it were true.

That was just one of the many jokes going around today. This is an email I got from Xbox today. It talks about some new products they're rolling out. These include a Xbox Live! board game and a Vintage Xbox 360 with wood faceplate and controllers. I wonder what some of these items would sell for an ebay lol.

Of course, sites like Digg like to get in on the fun, but their pranks are just more like shenanigans. Whenever you digg a story today, you'll get a unique symbol instead of the number of diggs. Nothing big, but still cool.

On this day, not even podcasts are safe. While watching Loaded today, I found myself "shocked" to hear the last story. Ms. Natali Del Conte has decided to leave Cnet to be the managing editor at Teen Life Magazine. Apparently she wants to pursue her dream in teen fashion. She of course followed this up by saying April Fools!

On another podcast, Tekzilla, I was surprised to see that the entire video had been mirrored.

After checking out some more videos, I found out that all the videos on the Revision3 website are now mirrored. It was pretty cool, but I'm sure it's just for today. So check it out if you get the chance.

Last but not least, while watching Mahalo Daily, I was expecting to see an interview with Steve Jobs. Instead I found out that I had been Rick Roll'd. If you don't know what being Rick Roll'd is, I suggest you watch the video.

Euro Pudding & Russian Dolls

Here's the deal, last night I was watching TV and I checked to see what was on IFC. I always check on there cause they usually have good movies on. So last night I check it out, and there was this french movie on called L'Auberge Espagnole (or Euro Pudding). To be honest, when I first started watching it I thought, "I'll just watch this till the one o'clock Sports Center comes on." Well, one o'clock came and went and I found myself not changing the channel. The movie was about this french student named Xavier, who goes to Barcelona to study for a year. While there, he ends up staying in an apartment with six other students. Who all speak a different language, as they are all from a different part of Europe.
A guy from Italy, an English girl, a guy from Denmark, a girl from Belgium, a guy from Germany and a Spanish girl. Even with all this, they still some how manage to work everything out. They all have there ups and downs, but they are always there to help each other out. Like when Xavier has to deal with leaving behind his girlfriend Martine (the beautiful Audrey Tautou).
Or when the group has to deal with Wendy's annoying brother William who decides to stay with them for a while. He's also responsible for one of the craziest and funniest moments in the movie. All in all it was a great film, and if you check it out, I'm sure you'll think it's great too.

The story doesn't end there. As soon as the movie was over, I went online to find out more about this movie. Turns out there's a somewhat sequel called Les Poupées Russes (or The Russian Dolls).
That's when I realized that was the movie coming on next. I found myself glued to the TV yet again. This one takes place five years later, with the whole group reuniting for William's wedding. William tells Xavier how he fell in love with a Russian girl, and his quest to be with her, even though they couldn't even communicate. On a train ride after the wedding, Xavier looks back at his life, disappointed by his carrier and his meaningless achievements. He wonders why he seems to ruin every relationship he's ever had. You follow along as he tells the story of what has happened to him these last five years. His job, his family, his love life, all of his rights and his many wrongs.
I was pleased to find out that this movie was just as great as the first. I don't want to say anymore for fear of ruining the movie. So on that note, go check out these two great films if you ever have the time. They're both available on Netflix, so you have no excuse lol. Here's the deal, you know all those banner ads you see all the time. You know, the ones that say like, get a free iPod and what not. Well I thought, why not try one. I wanna see if they are indeed true. I've seen stories about these websites on NBC News and on The Screen Savers. It seemed to work fine for them, so lets see if it works for me. The way these sites work is, you have to complete certain offers to get your free item. The the companies that supply the offers pay these sites to send them new customers. The money they get is more then enough to give away free stuff. So for example, I picked the video game rental company GameFly. The End of The Quick Stop

Here's the deal, as some of you know, the Quick Stop I work at is gonna be closing soon. I just found out that the last day is this Thrusday (11/15). Even though sometimes I really hated that place, I'm still gonna miss it. It was a fun job, and it would've been great if it wasn't for the customers lol. I love that I was pretty much living like the Clerks movie. I was stuck there on my days off, I hated the drug dealers that hung out outside of the store. I even had a Dante to my Randel with Lalo, with gotee and everything lol. He moved away too, but to Texas not Florida lol. One of the things that I found crazy was that the Store address was 3700 W. Diversey, 37! lol. I don't think it could've been any more like the movie then this . I guess just like the movie, it had to come to an end. Who knows, maybe one day I can buy the Quick Stop and reopen it myself. But for now, I guess I'll be looking for my Mooby's. We know I already have the uniform lol. My Photos Have a New Home

Here's the deal, as most of you know, I've been looking for a new home for my photos. Well, after extensive research and taking into account all your comments and opinons, I've come to a majority decision. It would've been unanimous if it wasn't for a one Daisy Delgado (stupid Daisy) lol. But I digress. So my decision is....(drum role).... Flickr. I found that Flickr was easier to organize and offered more and cooler features then any of the other sites I checked out. So I will soon be transfering all my photos to My Flickr. I'll also of course be changing the link on my page to My Flickr. By the time you read this, it should all be done. So let the great migration begin and I'll see you on the other side, laters.

Goodbye Yahoo, Hello ???

Here's the deal, I recently found out that Yahoo Photos will be closing down this fall. As some of you might know, I pretty much have my entire photo library on Yahoo Photos. So what can I do? Luckily, Yahoo has offered suggestions to other photo sharing sites that I might like. They even offered to transfer all my photos to the site of my choice. So with all that, there's not much to do but to pick a site. So I went looking at the five sites that they suggested (Flickr, Photo Bucket, Shutter Fly, Snap Fish and Kodak Gallery) and another one that I already knew about (Webshots). So out of those six sites, I really only like two. The two being Flickr and Webshots. They're pretty much have all the basic things that Yahoo had. Some places a little more, and some a little less. Like Flickr kind of has some limits, that you can get rid of with a paid membership which costs $24.95 a year. The same goes with Webshots, but their membership costs $29.88 a year. Even thought I'll prolly be fine with the free membership, it might come in handy to pay. Also if I move my photos to Flickr, Yahoo will pay the membership fee for three months. So now I'm left with a decision, Flickr or Webshots. Click on the links and check them out. Let me know what you think, it could really help me decide. Thank you.

Calling All Friends, I Need Your Help

Here's the deal, as most of you know, I work at Wrigley Field as an usher for the Cubs. It's prolly the best job I've ever had. Well this year, they've become a little more strict. Nothing really big, mostly just enforcing the rules a little more. Well one new rule they have is that guys can't have long hair. They had told a couple of people, but not me. Our friend James even quit cause he refused to cut it. I didn't even want to think about if it had to come to that. A bunch of people kept asking me if anybody had told me anything, which they hadn't. It's been three weeks since the season started, so I thought I was safe. That was, until yesterday. When I was in the office after the game, Danielle (boss lady) gave me the "snip snip" sign. She then proceaded to tell me that I had to cut my hair. Of course I tried to talk my way out of it, see if there was something I could do, but it was to now avail. When people ask me "When are you gonna cut your hair?" I would usually say "NEVER!" lol. But when I was being serious, I told them that I would cut my hair if I had a good enough reason. I think saving the best job I've ever had is a good enough reason. So now I'm left with the decision, my hair, or my job? What do you think?
